Educational Theatre Foundation The Educational Theatre Foundation (ETF) is the fundraising arm of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA).

The Educational Theatre Foundation provides financial support to enhance excellence in theatre education and to expand access to K-12 school theatre programs for every child. ETF’s mission is to provide all students equitable access to quality theatre education. The Foundation achieves this mission by providing financial support to programs that expand access to and participation in school theatre

This past July, Jackson Chavis, Gavin Evanson, and Kyle McFalls had the honor of attending Open Jar Institute: Actor Training's Broadway Intensive, a week-long summer program presented by musical theatre professionals in NYC. This past spring, three schools were awarded The Fiddler on the Roof Grant, which covers performance royalties for middle or high schools to perform Fiddler on the Roof or Fiddler on the Roof JR. through Music Theatre International. Funders Helene and Edward Cole created the grant to help educate students and communities about Jewish heritage and culture. Congratulations to these schools!

KIPP DC was one of five schools selected for the 2023-24 Pathway grant program. The grant empowers schools to explore productions and themes rooted in racial equity, while also enabling them to bring in mentorship for their students.

For KIPP, it’s been a valuable tool to help build a community based on student empowerment for both current Thespians and alumni.

As part of the program, they opened a production of Chicago in April 2024, with new costumes, hand-made set pieces, and a renewed energy. ETF chatted with theatre director Elena Muzzi to learn more about how they’re putting the funds to use.

The DSA Detroit School Of Arts High School was one of five schools selected for the 2023-24 Pathway grant program. The grant focused on supporting productions rooted in racial equity, mentorship for students, and community engagement has already made its impact.

DSA is set to premiere their production of The Wiz in April 2024, with plenty of excitement amongst students and the greater Detroit community. ETF chatted with theatre director Jennifer Leija to learn more about how they’re putting the funds to use.
