ArtWorks is proud to present the second Red Door Project of the season is now open for applications! The theme for this pop-up showcase is FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH is an art auction celebrating the power of expression through art, music, storytelling, and dialogue. Inspired by the First Amendment and presented in partnership with Cincinnati Public Radio, this Red Door invites artists to explore how voices shape communities, challenge ideas, preserve history, and inspire change.
Red Door: Freedom of Speech welcomes artwork that reflects the many forms of expression and the enduring power of creative voices to communicate, question, and connect.

1001 Colors’ final Gallery Fellowship of the 2026 season is now accepting applications!

We are looking for artists ages 16-24 to participate in our Gallery Fellowship Program under the guidance of Artist-in-Residence HATSUE, creating new pieces for a group exhibition titled “Sense of Tomorrow,” which will be featured in the 2026 FotoFocus Biennial, “The Long View.”

This residency invites Gallery Fellows to collaborate with Artist-in-Residence HATSUE to investigate what makes life beautiful and fulfilling and to explore ways to interpret the findings through photography and image-making.

As we began the process to transition from ArtWorks to 1001 Colors, we set out, with the amazing creative agency Six Cinquième, to develop a visual identity that reflects our belief that art is a collective journey, shaped by many voices and never confined to a single perspective. We imagined an icon that could shift, evolve, and transform, passing through the hands of artists like a shared spark. Instead of holding meaning in one fixed form, it would expand, inviting interpretation, collaboration, and reinvention at every turn!

Yesterday was a joyous day. Not only did we kick off the 19th year of our Summer Apprentice Program, but we also celebrated our 30th anniversary and unveiled our rebrand as 1001 Colors!

While the name has changed, our commitment to the work remains the same. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey whether you’re an artist, donor or supporter. We are grateful for your support and look forward to all that the future holds!

Special thank you to the Art Academy of Cincinnati for hosting our Apprentice Orientation in SITE1212!

During renovations of its new creative campus at 2429 Gilbert Ave. in Walnut Hills, workers uncovered a hand-painted sign reading "1000 & 1 Colors." The sign is a remnant of Bolsi Paint, a paint manufacturer that built the structure in 1909 and was once the third-largest paint manufacturer in the country.

"When we're tearing down walls and signage from the company Race Refrigeration, which was there, which occupied in between, we saw like this, literally this hand-painted sign that said '1001 colors,'" James Marable, senior director of marketing and communications, said.
