Last week, the Cincinnati Lions Club had the opportunity to host a few representatives from Pilot Dogs and two of their guide dogs in training! Since 1950, Pilot Dogs is a non-profit organization outside of Columbus, OH with a mission of providing expertly-trained guide dogs, orientation and mobility training, and other valuable services free of charge to those in need, inspiring and empowering them to navigate the world with greater independence, safety, and dignity. They are 100% donor-funded and have a long history with the Lions Club as 500 clubs have supported them for 60+ years! https://www.pilotdogs.org/about-us/

Our website to sponsor and register for the Cincinnati Lions Club's annual putt-putt event is now live! We are raising funds for the Cin-See-Nati Children Glasses Fund this year, but we need YOUR help to make it a success. Another new change is we will be holding the world's first Putt-Putt Scramble (to our knowledge)! Grab a friend, sponsor a hole, and let's make this a successful event for a great cause!

Our club is selling raffle tickets for a large, annual festival the Millersport Lions Club puts on each year. Each ticket is live for a drawing into multiple raffles including: $10,000, $2,500, and $500 cash prizes, as well as many prize baskets! Also, each Lions club that helps Millersport gets to retain half of the $ that club raises in sales for their own local initiatives. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. Any support would mean a lot! Cincinnati Children’s Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology is one of the largest centers for the care of children’s eye problems in the country. They treat more than 22,000 children each year for a wide variety of eye disorders. Their pediatric ophthalmologists and optometrists perform more than 1,000 eye surgeries each year! Tonight, our club had the honor of presenting club member Larry Nurre with his Life Membership pin and certificate! A Life Member is a Lion who has maintained active membership for 20+ years with outstanding service to the club, community, or association. Lion Larry has certainly demonstrated outstanding service.
Fun fact: Larry's father AND grandfather were members of the Cincinnati Host as well!

One week from tomorrow, golf's most storied tournament begins. While I've always been a fan of golf, the 2021 Masters tournament was really part of what caused me to start following the pros. It was truly heartwarming to watch Hideki become the first Japanese person to win the Masters and it was clear how much it meant to him and his caddie. Will he win a second green jacket next week?

Last month, our club held a Poster contest and a Peace Essay contest for the children at St. Francis Seraph School. They were challenged with creating a final product that visually depicted or described what peace meant to them. They winners were given certificates and gift cards.
