Casa de Paz offers a secure and safe haven for Latina women and their children in the Greater Cincinnati area to begin a new life, free from abuse and trauma. We guide and support the families unconditionally, without judgment and with inclusion and confidentiality, in order to facilitate their transformation. We provide programs of education and growth—psychological-emotional, vocational, and spiritual—through partnerships with professional services and a network of volunteers. Visión

A couple of weeks ago, staff from Casa de Paz joined advocates from across the state at Ohio’s Domestic Violence Network Advocacy Day in Columbus Ohio!

Together, we held more than 100 legislative meetings and joined by 62 other programs!

Meet Kasylvi (Sylvie) Acuña, our new Family & Volunteer Specialist at Casa de Paz! 💜💚

Sylvie is a recent Ohio University graduate with a background in Sociology and Political Science. During her graduate studies, she focused on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), their impact on children in rural Appalachia, and the powerful role volunteerism plays in healing from trauma.

As a first-generation Dominican–Nicaragüense professional, Sylvie brings deep passion for community, cultural connection, and empowering families to reach their full potential. We are thrilled to welcome her to our Casa de Paz team!

✨ Grew up in Maryland and is new to Cincinnati
✨ Studied Italian from 7th grade through college
✨ Loves music, hiking, reality TV, and time with friends

💚 At Casa de Paz, every month is filled with healing, growth, and community — and it’s all possible because of you.

Here is a glance at what happened over the span of a month last year. Survivors and their children participated in therapy, yoga, enrichment activities, and Grupo Fenix. Families enjoyed special outings to Disney on Ice, the aquarium, and planned Holiday Celebrations.

We had launched computer classes and a new After School Program, giving kids structured activities while moms take time for themselves.

Our bilingual, culturally sensitive staff walks alongside each survivor, providing emotional, vocational, and spiritual support so that every journey toward independence is possible.

Every path is unique, and at Casa de Paz, language and culture are never barriers to recovery.

Duties include:

✅Participate in the assessment of families, development and implementation of trauma-informed individual family plan.
✅Facilitate the implementation of trauma-informed interventions, groups, activities based on family’s plan.
✅Assist in the scheduling and coordination of services for residents and provide for transportation as needed.
✅Facilitate coordination of volunteers who assist in plan implementation.
✅Responsible for the well-being of the residents of the house.
✅Provide hospitality functions, creating a welcoming, orderly environment for guests.
✅Provide education, appropriate modeling techniques and other supportive services as outlined in service plan
✅Maintain a positive house milieu, enforcement of code of conduct, and effective management of problematic behaviors.
✅Facilitate weekly house meetings for residents where they can plan ways to build community and take the lead in addressing their concerns.
✅Provide on-call support as required and scheduled.
✅Mediate any interpersonal problems between families.
✅Maintain a base of documentation on the residential center and its families.
