Today marks the 6-year anniversary of Matthew Mangine, Jr.’s passing. 💜 Matthew’s untimely death will never make sense, but our hope is that the work of this foundation – established to honor and remember Matthew – will prevent other families from experiencing a similar loss. Matthew’s jersey number was 5, so as we mark this day, please consider the following 5 ways to keep Matthew's legacy alive:
1️⃣ Learn CPR. Take a CPR class or watch an instructional video. Or, request a free hands-only CPR training for your workplace, church, school, or community group (https://www.oneshot.life/training-request-form/). Hands-on training gives you the confidence to act quickly and effectively in a cardiac emergency.
2️⃣ Know how to use an AED. Familiarize yourself with automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and how they work. Did you know that most devices have voice instructions to guide you? And that an AED will only deliver a shock if it detects that one is needed? Understanding the basics of how an AED works can help you act fast when every second counts.
3️⃣ Review Emergency Action Plans (EAP). Does your school, workplace, gym, or church have an EAP? Make sure you understand it, and if it includes use of an onsite AED, make sure you know where that AED is. If places you regularly frequent don’t have EAPs, advocate for them to be established and practiced regularly.
4️⃣ Donate to the One Shot Foundation. Whether it’s $5 or $50, your gift allows us to train more individuals on hands-only CPR, place more emergency medical equipment with schools and youth sports organizations, and educate more coaching staff and athletic trainers on the importance of Emergency Action Plans. https://www.oneshot.life/donate/
5️⃣ Save the Date. On November 14, we'll be celebrating Matthew's heavenly birthday at our annual One Shot Birthday Bash, and we'd love to have you join us! Tickets and more information are available at https://oneshot26.givesmart.com.
We love you, Matthew, and we miss you every day. 💜
