Federal agents raided the Cleveland offices of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative this week, a pro-democracy group that does voter registration work in communities across Ohio. They showed up at staff’s homes, approached volunteers, and questioned civil rights leaders on their doorsteps, some without warrants.

The Ohio Organizing Collaborative helps people register to vote. They’ve challenged gerrymandered maps that dilute Black voter representation. This raid is similar to federal inquiries into voting infrastructure in Georgia, Wisconsin, and Puerto Rico, all in the run-up to the midterms.

The Trump administration’s message is clear: do this work, and we will come for you.
