World Environment Day 2026: Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.
This year’s theme deeply resonates with us at PCRF.
As forecasts warn of another potentially strong El Niño event and the UN releasing a warning statement this week, pangolins and countless other species across Southern Africa may once again be forced to endure the impacts of extreme drought, rising temperatures, and increasingly unpredictable weather patterns.
We have witnessed these consequences firsthand.
During the devastating 2018/19 drought, when pangolin research in Namibia was still in its early stages, we monitored animals in one of the hardest-hit regions of the country. Tragically, we documented 16 wild pangolin deaths, with starvation being the primary cause. As drought reduced ant and termite abundance, pangolins simply ran out of food. There was also a sharp increase in live confiscations, over 50 in one year.
Climate change is not a distant threat. It is already affecting wildlife, ecosystems, and communities around the world.
Yet there is hope.
What can YOU do about it? 🌍
Climate change can feel overwhelming, but our everyday choices matter. Small actions taken by millions of people can create meaningful change.
✔️ Reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible.
✔️ Buy only what you need and choose quality products that last longer.
✔️ Support environmentally responsible and conservation-minded businesses.
✔️ Consider buying second-hand clothing, furniture, and equipment before purchasing new.
✔️ Reduce single-use plastics and unnecessary packaging.
✔️ Save water and energy at home and at work.
✔️ Choose locally produced products when possible to reduce transportation impacts.
✔️ Spend time in nature and help others understand why it is worth protecting.
✔️ Support conservation organizations and community-led environmental initiatives.
✔️ Use your voice—share knowledge, encourage positive change, and advocate for a more sustainable future.
The future of our planet is shaped not only by governments and industries, but by the collective choices each of us makes every day.
