We started with leeks, moved on to chard, finding a "forkedhook" (Chard connoisseurs may get this.) variety, and finished with cherry tomatoes. It was another productive, feel-good morning with dedicated volunteers who have come to feel like friends! Thanks to Our Harvest Cooperative
for these weekly gleanings all season. We also love the relationship we've developed with CAIN

As the crops wind down for the year, those that remain have a sweetness to them, a final farewell before they retreat back into the earth.

Today, those of us harvesting had a serenity as well, in reprieve from the previous season's intense heat & sunlight.

It's also a reminder to be grateful for the growing season, despite its trials. We wish we could provide this food all year long. The time will come when we must take our pause, but for now, we'll savor & share what we've got.

Thanks to Greenacres Foundation for growing this food & having us out, to Last Mile Food Rescue for filling your cars, and to North Fairmount Community Center for sharing this food with the community.

Huge thanks to Kate, this weekend, who joined our Montgomery Farmers' Market gleaning team this fall and dove right in on several shifts already! We had more wonderful donations this weekend for Needs Inc. Food Pantry . With only 4 Saturdays left in this farmers' market season, we are already so grateful for the bounty of donations received this fall!!

At Our Harvest Cooperative this morning, Julie and Sue spent most of their time gleaning tomatoes and were running out of time to get beets as well. They were pleasantly surprised when several students visiting from Cincinnati Waldorf School asked if they could help. Well, of course they could! In 15 minutes, many little hands attached to keen eyes and excited spirits found 30 lbs if beets hidden in two 50 ft weedy rows - all sent to CAIN to share. One of the best parts was learning how many of the students actually loved beets!!

It might've been a strange tomato year for many growers in this region, but the green beans at Greenacres Foundation just keep giving.

What's more, these lovely folks keep showing up to pick them - And let me tell you, if you haven't hand your hands graced by the task of bean-picking, it takes a lot of work for a little yield. But our love of green beans & of sharing them keeps us going.

Every weekend, May-October, our farm mkt gleaning teams collect delicious donations from the vendors at Montgomery Farmers' Market and Hyde Park Farmers' Market . They have friendly relationships with many of the vendors, shop at these markets, and work hard to collect, weigh and record every donation for the vendors before handing them off to Last Mile Food Rescue volunteers to deliver.
