Happy Women’s Day! Have you heard of Dr. Lucy Oxley?

Dr. Lucy Oxley (1912-1991) broke barriers as the first Black graduate of UC’s medical program in 1935, only to be denied internships due to discrimination. Undeterred, she found opportunities at historically Black colleges outside Cincinnati and eventually returned to open a private practice, first in Walnut Hills and later in Avondale. This short dives into Dr. Oxley’s story as a local pioneer in family medicine.

Join us as we reshare some of our work honoring women in history through and . We have a month dedicated to ’s and that’s something to celebrate!

We conclude this year’s Black History lecture series with Universities & Slave Benefactors.

This session uncovers the often-silenced histories of higher education’s ties to slavery and racial exploitation, examining how institutions were built through enslaved labor and slave-derived wealth—and what accountability, memory, and repair might require today.

This lecture asks us to confront institutional legacies honestly and to consider how truth-telling shapes more just futures.

📝 Please note: This lecture includes historical context related to racial violence and oppression, which may be triggering. We encourage attendees to practice self-care and care for one another.

Join us Tuesday (2/16) for The Cost of Blackness, a lecture examining what it means to live within systems that extract value from Black life while denying Black humanity.

This session explores the social, economic, and psychological costs imposed by racialized systems of power, while also honoring the ways Black communities persist, create, and resist despite them.

Through historical analysis, we are invited to confront how the past continues to shape lived experience in the present.

📝 Please note: This lecture includes historical context related to racial violence and oppression, which may be triggering. We encourage attendees to practice self-care and care for one another.
