When a gunman opened fire in a King Soopers in Boulder on Monday, 10 lives were cut short. Those included a Boulder police officer, three grocery store employees, and shoppers who happened to go there that afternoon to buy food. Here’s what we know about those who were lost: If you’d like to sha...

THIS IS ME?

So at the time of this post another mass shooting had occurred in Boulder Colorado where a person of interest was taken into custody. What does that mean? The person was WHITE!!!! That is all I am going to say about that as I want to talk about the mass shooting that occurred in Atlanta where the targets were Asian Americans. Now the million dollar question is how should we feel about this tragedy especially coming from an African American point of view. Let's see, they get tax free loans and other incentives to set up businesses in poor Black neighborhoods. When we buy goods and services from them we are treated with disdain and disrespect not to mention that as soon as we do spend our money in their stores it is transported out of our community instantaneously thus leaving our community in dire straits. Unfortunately, I am comfortably numb about the situation as I am about the Holecaust as some have stated that it was the payback for Jews for financing slave ships that brought slaves from Africa to the auction blocks in America. Now ponder this; are mass shooting the payback for the many atrocities caused by White America currently and in the past? It is written you reap what you sow; so, I find that I am indifferent on this point as well.
Now the quagmire for me that remains is how do I create a "Social Justice" non-profit organization and what does that look like in terms of goals. Furthermore, should our "Social Justice" initiatives be narrowly focused like the N.A.A.C.P? or be broader in scope to more "inclusive" than
"exclusive? This brings me to the point of this diatribe in the first place as I ponder the vision of my non-profit trying to determine should I be biased or unbiased. Being biased is kind of lopsided too: a biased person favors one side or issue over another. While biased can just mean having a preference for one thing over another, it also is synonymous with "prejudiced," and that prejudice can be taken to the extreme.
Unbiased means being fair and not likely to support one particular person or group involved in something. So which school of thought should I build my non-profit upon?
Still, amidst these tragedies the quagmire remains.
