The Schooner Bill of Rights

The Schooner Bill of Rights Non-profit maritime corporation, home of historic schooner Bill of Rights, providing innovative experiential education, art, and science programs.

The famous schooner Bill of Rights now calls Chula Vista Harbor her home! She is a 136' two-masted gaff rigged schooner built in the grand tradition of New England schooners. The ship is certified to carry passengers, up to 70 guests in voyages of less than 12 hours, 20 guests for overnight voyages. Built in Maine in 1971 and home ported in Newport, RI, she sailed the New England waters for decade

s. In the late 1980s she journeyed to the west coast successfully providing adventure sailing and youth educational programs. More than 10,000 students have been part of the award winning sailing programs. South Bayfront Sailing Association (SBFSA) is a California non-profit corporation chartered to benefit the public by offering programs centered around seamanship, maritime skills and history. Sailing on the Bill of Rights is our core program, but we also offer educational classes and seminars, create innovative sailing events and programs for the community. We offer a wooden boatbuilding camp that teaches math skills while building a skiff. "Build a boat with kids and they'll learn fractions, geometry, and maybe even a little bit of algebra. More important, they'll learn that without math they can't do the job right" (Joe Youcha Build to Teach)

May the tall ships ever grace our waters.

Goodbye & au revoir, Canada! A fun coincidence, ambassadors, PRIDE II & Bluenose II were both scheduled to depart Lunenburg today, so we made the most of it & set sail together.

The BLUENOSE II team captured some incredible shots of the two world-renowned vessels sailing side by side. Even in light air, & very much in the spirit of friendship, both crews spread on some serious canvas. Major kudos to both crews for putting out all the laundry! We have more to share, be sure to keep an eye out for more from this sail.

To our friends in Lunenburg & across Nova Scotia, thank you for the warm hospitality. To our followers, if you ever find yourself looking for somewhere to visit, Nova Scotia is an incredible place to explore. Nova Scotia has the perfect combination of natural beauty & rich history, it is a bucket list worthy destination.

In 1975 the BILL OF RIGHTS sailed the Tall Ship parade for the 200th USA 4th of July! She was young (built 1971) and beautiful! She still sails out of Southern Califonia, Her sister ship "HARVEY GAMAGE", built in the Harvey Gamage boat yard in 1973 with much of the wood from the same trees the BILL OF RIGHTS was built from, is proudly in this years SAIL250.

Sail250 is an official multi-state, high-profile international tall ship and government project formed to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States.

So well said. Today we send 10 USN Sea Cadets home after a week of "Messing About With Boats" ... Next Saturday is the annual America's Schooner Cup and we have a full boat of motley crew. Our hopes are high that in the following weeks we will have constructive negotiations with Safe Harbor Marina's and convince them that the BILL OF RIGHTS, South Bayfront Sailing Association and all our community of volunteers and supporters are the soul of our waterfront and essential.

Sailing isn’t something you just pick up casually and stay the same. It changes how you think, how you solve problems, how you see the world. After a while, “average” stops being something you’re aiming for at all.

Thank you !!!! Thank you !!!! to EVERYONE who reached out and supported us. The petition, the letters, the phone calls and the visitors... Your voices are being heard!
Last week, Safe Harbor called and gave us a 60 day extension (to July 4th)... This week we received the following email: " please disregard the Notice of Termination dated March 6, 2026. We will continue to explore alternative mooring options."

So, our future and the tallship of Chula Vista's future is hopeful.. With your support!!!

Today we say goodby to two Sea Cadet classes and on Sunday a new group arrives. This was a great group of young men and women, planning a future in the maritime.
