Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary Club The Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary Club meets Thursday mornings at the San Diego KOA Resort Board Room.

We are involved in many community outreach projects and are pleased to be a partner with the Chula Vista Community Collaborative. In addition we are committed to serving the youth of our community by actively sponsoring students in LEAD and RYLA and two Interact clubs at Bonita Vista High School and Hilltop High School. Each year we are pleased to be able to award scholarships to graduating senior

s. Globally we have been involved in many grants that have brought change to many communities. We currently are hosting global grant assisting teachers in Honduras called “Train to Change.” We host a "Rise against Hunger” event and run the Orange Crate Derby in summer. Thanks to CVSR members and their families, in addition to friends from other Rotary clubs and the Allen School community who joined us this morning for our food packing event! We packaged over 15,500 meals of Minestrone Soup and Mac and Cheese for the Outreach Project in less than 90 minutes! The delicious food will be delivered to those with food insecurities within San Diego County.

At this week's meeting, President Gina shared the charities that the Board of Director's approved for this years benefactors following our Trivia Night Fundraiser. Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary is proud to disperse $15,000 to seven deserving local charities. This amount takes us to over $27,000 in donations, including our contribution to Polio Plus and student representatives at RYLA and Model UN. Two charities, The Gurmilan Foundation and the San Diego Therapeutic Horsemanship, each received $3000. The Gurmilan Foundation provides scholarships and grants to adaptive athletes and students with disabilities. The donation to SDTH will provide for Smokey's care as he works with military veterans and children with disabilities to build physical, cognitive and social well-being while learning equine skills. The South Bay Sustainable Communities and San Diego Rescue Mission each received $2500. The SBSC continues to educate our community about composting and food waste while the SDRM deals with the vast problem of those experiencing poverty by helping with shelter, food, job training, clothing and more. The Living Coast Discovery Center received $2000 to continue to inspire the community to connect with and care for our coastal environment and local wildlife. The Fisher House and Chula Vista Animal Care Facility also received $1000 each to continue their good work. The Fisher House assists with families of veterans receiving medical care and the CVACF reunites lost pets and provides other valuable services to our animal world.

Registration is now open for our food packaging event on May 4 at Allen School in Bonita. Costs have been covered by our Rotary Club so donations are not required! Please scan the QR code to register. We will be packaging 15,000 meals for The Outreach Project. We ask volunteers to register in advance and be there by 8 am. See you there!
