🎉Happy Vet Tech Week! 🎉

The BlendVet Foundation proudly celebrates veterinary technicians and the essential role they play in building a stronger future for veterinary medicine. We are especially grateful for the veterinary technicians who contribute their time, knowledge, and personal experiences to our programming, including Suzanne Thomas, Tricia Gorham, Walter Brown, Jessica Moodey, Lucy Nash, Jocelyn Harvey, Ashley Menefeld, and so many others who continue to make a meaningful impact!

We are committed to helping students discover veterinary technology as an exciting and rewarding career pathway. Through our programming and partnerships with veterinary technician schools, we aim to introduce students to the many opportunities within the profession, from becoming licensed veterinary technicians to pursuing specialized certifications and careers in industry, research, and academia.

We are also proud to have continued our programming at St. Petersburg College in 2023 and 2026, and we look forward to returning in March 2027! These experiences help us connect students with veterinary technicians who inspire, educate, and demonstrate the value of this essential profession in advancing veterinary medicine.

This Vet Tech Week, and every week, we celebrate you and thank you for helping us inspire the next generation of veterinary professionals. Together, we can create a more informed, collaborative, and stronger future for Vet Med! 🫶

A Puerto Rico native, board-certified veterinary dentist and oral surgeon, and associate professor at UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine Maria Soltero-Rivera, DVM, DAVDC says, her veterinary medicine career is her "dream come true". She shares what it means to inspire youth and be involved in Youth Pathways program.

Through her volunteer work with our Believe and Belong in Veterinary Medicine® Youth Pathways program, she helps students explore career possibilities, connect with veterinary professionals, and envision themselves in the profession.

🎉In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we're spotlighting Dr. Jovanna Radillo, president of blendVET® Foundation, a first-generation Mexican-American, and a bilingual small animal veterinarian with more than 20 years of experience in animal care and welfare.

Proud of her Mexican heritage and humble beginnings, Dr. Radillo's journey into veterinary medicine was shaped by two powerful motivations: a lifelong connection with animals and a desire to see greater representation within her community.

Growing up, she recognized the importance of having veterinary professionals who reflected the communities they served. Today, that same passion drives her commitment to creating opportunities where every student can feel a sense of belonging and envision a future in veterinary medicine.

Through Youth Pathways, blendVET® Foundation introduces students to veterinary careers, connects them with professionals from diverse backgrounds, and helps them discover what's possible.

Because representation isn't just about who we see today. It's about who we inspire tomorrow.

As Jeannette Ferran Astorga, President of the Zoetis Foundation, shares, the blendVET Foundation’s Believe & Belong program creates a foundation for learning, early career exposure and inspiration — helping students discover a future in a purpose-driven profession.

That investment becomes real through hands-on experiences.

Students explore veterinary medicine by practicing skills like blood smears and suturing, connecting with professionals and experiencing what the work actually looks like.

Dr. Bruno is an Afro-Latina veterinarian, educator, and advocate working to build a more inclusive veterinary profession. As Founder and CEO of blendVET® and Founder and Executive Director of blendVET® Foundation, she helps veterinary organizations strengthen workplace culture while also creating pathways into veterinary medicine for under-resourced students through mentorship, leadership, and immersive learning experiences.

A graduate of Tuskegee University and Cornell University, Dr. Bruno’s work is rooted in access, belonging, communication, and representation. Her message is a powerful reminder that change does not happen through one voice alone. It happens when we create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to lead.

Representation does more than inspire. It helps students see veterinary medicine as a future they can actually picture themselves pursuing.

“I want to be a bridge for veterinary schools,” shares Dr. Niccole Bruno, founder of blendVET® Foundation. “I want students to not think that they can’t apply and get accepted into vet school.”

For educator Sharon Bruno, that bridge becomes even stronger when students see professionals who reflect what is possible.

“They can do it, so I can do it,” she shares. “That’s motivation within itself—to show that they care and to pay it forward.”

That sense of possibility shouldn’t end when a Youth Pathways experience ends.

That’s why we created VETVillage — a new, free online community where students can keep exploring animal science and veterinary careers, learning from others and connecting with people who can help guide their next steps.

VETVillage is for:

• Middle and high school students interested in animal science and veterinary careers
• Parents and caregivers supporting their journey
• Educators and career counselors helping students discover what’s possible

What happens after our Youth Pathways packs up for the day? That question has always mattered to Dr. Niccole Bruno, Founder and Executive Director, blendVET® Foundation.

For the past three years, blendVET® Foundation has partnered with High Tech High Chula Vista and High Tech Middle Chula Vista in Chula Vista in different ways — returning to familiar faces, building stronger relationships with teachers and learning how we can continue supporting their students. And something important happens when we come back.

Teachers who once wondered what to expect from Youth Pathways begin asking different questions:

👉🏾How can I bring this into my curriculum?
👉🏾How can I better support my students in patient care?
👉🏾What can we do next?

That’s the pathway we want to build.

Youth Pathways gives students that critical first step: hands-on experiences, exposure to veterinary medicine and opportunities to learn directly from local veterinary professionals who guide them, encourage them and sometimes simply remind them: “You got this.”

But it shouldn’t end when the event does.

That’s why we created VETVillage — to extend the experience beyond one day by providing ongoing education, resources and connection for students, parents, teachers and school career counselors as young people continue exploring veterinary medicine.

The in-person experience may be the first step. The pathway is everything that comes next.
