After years of dreaming and planning, now we're actually doing. We purchased Colibri (pictured above) in October 2020, and we've hit the pause button on our careers. We're in the process of renting out our house in Bethesda Maryland, selling our cars, packing up our things, pulling the girls from public school, and if all goes according to plan, we will drive a rental car to Jacksonville FL (where
Colibri is currently moored) and move onboard in mid-January 2021. Our plan is to sail South from there to Miami and then across the Gulf Stream to Bahamas - making our way along the chain of Caribbean islands before heading West to, Central America, through the Panama Canal, and North along Pacific Mexico into the Sea of Cortez. Expanding our horizons (literally and figuratively) is our primary aim, but we also seek to better understand the ocean, the ways it is threatened, and today's efforts to protect it. In other words, we are on a self-directed mission to live... and learn.
