Today was a special and bittersweet day for the Pocatello Rotary Club as we gathered to celebrate the lives and lasting legacy of two beloved Rotarians, Norm and Beth Hill.

Norm, who passed away a few years ago, and Beth, who we lost earlier this year, were more than longtime members of our club. They were pillars of our community who dedicated so much of their lives to making Pocatello a better place.

We were honored to be invited by their family to celebrate their lives, followed by a special tree dedication at Taysom Rotary Park, a place that holds a meaningful connection to their years of service and generosity.

And while our little tree was looking a bit sad today, we’re hopeful it will find new life and grow strong, just like the legacy Norm and Beth have left behind. 🌳❤️

Their contributions to our community, including this very park, will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

To Norm and Beth’s family, thank you for allowing us to be part of such a meaningful day. We are incredibly proud to have called them fellow Rotarians, and even prouder to help carry their legacy forward.

The Pocatello Rotary Club—or the highway cleanup crew. You can call us either!

This morning, members of our club got together to tackle some highway cleanup and put Service Above Self into action.

We kicked things off at McDonald’s in Chubbuck, where they generously fed our crew breakfast and kept the coffee flowing. Thank you, McDonald’s, for taking care of us!

From there, we hit the I-86 on-ramp in Chubbuck and worked our way almost all the way to the Simplot plant.

And we found some interesting stuff along the way. By the end, we had filled more than 120 large garbage bags—and counting. One lucky Rotarian even came away $20 richer after finding a bill on the side of the highway.

It’s pretty incredible what can get done when a community shows up and gets to work.

A big thank you to McDonald’s, the Idaho Transportation Department, the ICCU crew who joined us, and all of our fellow Rotarians who spent their Saturday morning making our community a little cleaner!

Ever hear of Corlell and Norma Van Gorder? How about Lewis Ray L.R. Swank? A.B. Huffman or Wayne A. Morgan? Those are some of Idaho's most noted oldtime fiddlers. That is the subject of a book recently placed as part of our Little Free Library refill at the Edson Fichter Nature Area. Right now it's the furthest book to the right, front row, on the top shelf 😀

Pocatello Rotary Club Investigating Misappropriation of Funds
Pocatello, Idaho (June 30, 2026) – The Rotary Club of Pocatello announced today that it is
investigating a case of misappropriation of funds, working with the Pocatello Police
Department.
Denis Clijsters, recently elected president of the club, emphasized that the possible
misappropriation does not involve any active members of the club. “An individual who
previously had access to our accounts may have misappropriated club funds. That is what we
know at this point.”
Clijsters emphasized that the club is pursuing the matter as urgently as possible. “We are
working with the Pocatello Police Department to determine the facts surrounding the matter.
Considering how visible the club is in our community, and the many projects in which the club
is involved, we felt it was best to let the community know that there is an issue and that we are
diligently looking into it.”
Clijsters added that no current programs are affected. “The Pocatello Rotary club has reviewed
all financial oversight measures and internal controls to safeguard the club’s funds moving
forward.”
“We take very seriously the trust our community places in us, in supporting the many service
projects and worthwhile causes in which our club is involved,” added Clijsters. “For more than
a century, the Pocatello Rotary Club has stood as a leading example of the Rotary motto,
‘Service Above Self,’ and nothing has changed in that regard. We’ll continue the good work
that Rotarians are known for, here and around the world – everything from Little Free
Libraries, highway clean-up and support for deserving organizations in our community, to
active involvement in Rotary International’s efforts eliminate polio, give communities around
the world clean drinking water, and promote world peace.”
Clijsters stated that no further information would be forthcoming from the club, pending the
results of the ongoing police investigation. “People deserve a fair investigation and due
process, and we intend to respect that principle. Until the matter is clarified through proper
investigation, we intend to do what we have always done – be of service to others, here in the
community and around the world.”
