What a wonderful time we had welcoming our Seahorses home to the river for Alumni Reunion Weekend 2026! From the golf classic, to honoring Huntley Galleher, to delicious meals and a fun crab picking at the waterfront .... it was truly a special gathering in this special place. It was especially great to watch the classes of 1976, 1986, 1996, and 2001 connect and re-connect. Another highlight was watching children of our '06 Seahorses play together at the beach. Thank you to all who shared the weekend with us. We're already looking forward to next year! Enjoy photos of the fun:

THANK YOU TO Seahorse Donny Pyles, for 28 years of servant leadership to Christchurch School. Soccer coach, lacrosse coach, advisor, history teacher, humanities teacher, math teacher, department chair, dorm parent, Senior Director of Curriculum and Program ... Donny has done it all. And he has inspired and mentored hundreds of Seahorses - students and faculty - along the way.

Congratulations to Donny as he moves on to serve as Head of Upper School at Vail Mountain School in Colorado!

Head of School Billy Coyle shared these thoughts at commencement, "Donny has led our program, and has brought a vision to our educational philosophy; ensuring that Christchurch was always student-centered and mission driven. Believing that education helps students move beyond what they were before, to become larger people ready to enter the world, he inspired a transformational educational philosophy built around relationships, engagement, and agency. He believed that education, understood in this sense, does not just happen in our classrooms but rather, this belief directs all aspects of our community and the curriculum of all our programs: academics, community life, co-curriculars, and our culture. Donny’s passion is infectious. And that passion will remain embedded here for decades to come. Thank you Mr. Pyles for nearly three decades of service to Christchurch School. We will miss you - The Vale Mountain School in Colorado is gaining a truly visionary leader."

Farewell, Seahorse! Best wishes! And thank you!

Huntley Galleher’s more than 40 years of service to Christchurch School have left an extraordinary mark on generations of students, alumni, colleagues, and families. From the Development Office to the classroom, the field, and beyond, his influence has reached every corner of campus.

As Huntley begins his retirement, we are deeply grateful for the dedication and leadership he has given to this community. If you would like to honor his enduring legacy and support the future of Christchurch School, we invite you to make a gift in his honor: https://givetochristchurchschool.org/campaigns/the-bell-tower-fund

We also look forward to welcoming Huntley back the 33rd Annual Golf Classic on June 5, and Alumni Reunion Weekend from June 5–7, as we continue celebrating all he has meant to our community.

MEMORIAL DAY 2026

We are grateful for those who gave their lives in service to our country so that we are free - this day, and every day - to be with our friends and loved ones. THANK YOU. ❤ 🇺🇸

Seahorses who gave their lives in service include:
Robert Gordon Holloway '40
Charles Leonard Darbie '26
Sydney A. Vincent, Jr. '36
Lewis Burwell Cardozo '44
Joseph Tyler Thrift, Jr. '43
Richie Neale Henderson '35
Robert Finley Jones '38

The memory of these young men who sacrificed their lives will be forever honored by their alma mater. Do you know of other CCS graduates who made the ultimate sacrifice? If so, please share their names/memories either in the comments below or e-mail them to [email protected].

"My country 'tis of thee
sweet land of liberty ...
land where my fathers died,
land of the pilgrim's pride ..."
Hymn #717, The Hymnal 1982

Did you know? On Memorial Day, the American flag is flown at half-staff from sunrise through noon. Then, at noon, the flag is raised briskly to the top of the staff until sundown. The morning hours are to remember those who gave their lives in service to the country. At noon, their memory is raised by the living who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up in their stead and continue the fight for liberty. See less

We just couldn't be more proud! Congratulations to Patrick Martin '94 who was named Charletson County's 2026 Teacher of the Year! In the Post and Courier's article, Patrick speaks of being inspired by two Christchurch legends, Steve Roebuck and Richard Powell “Mr. Roebuck, my art teacher, and Mr. Powell, my history teacher, helped me realize I wasn’t a failure; I was a student who needed a different path and someone to believe in me,” Martin said. “That shift has shaped everything I know about how to approach this work.”

Patrick Martin, an English educator at the School of the Arts, was named Charleston County School District’s 2026 Teacher of the Year.
