Spanish Mustang Rescue and Conservancy

Spanish Mustang Rescue and Conservancy *closed for intakes* Thank you for being part of our journey! Together, we can make a lasting impact on their future.

At Blue Raven Farms, our nonprofit equine conservation organization is dedicated to safeguarding the critically endangered Spanish Mustangs while promoting emotional intelligence in our interactions with all living beings. Through education and advocacy, we strive to foster a deep understanding of the importance of treating every creature with respect and empathy. Our guiding principle, "Conservat

ion through conversation," reflects our belief that transformative dialogues have the power to shape how we perceive and care for others, leading to tangible social change. With a global population of Spanish Mustangs dwindling to a mere few thousand, we collaborate with existing registries to establish a unified front in our mission to prevent the irreversible loss of these extraordinary horses. We warmly invite the public to visit Blue Raven Farms in Tyner, North Carolina, where we provide open access by appointment. Immerse yourself in the world of Spanish Mustangs, meet these majestic creatures, and join us in our commitment to their preservation.

Why is it that so many people are eager to screw rescues? It's a contributing factor to why we're closing down. Wasn't the horses, it was the people.

Lush pasture, while natural and appealing, often contains high levels of non-structural carbohydrates (NSCs), particularly in the spring and fall. These sugars can trigger insulin spikes and weight gain, which are dangerous for metabolically sensitive or founder-prone horses.

I think it's a deep consolation to know that spiders dream, that monkeys tease predators, that dolphins have accents, that lions can be scared silly by a lone mongoose, that otters hold hands, and ants bury their dead.

That there isn't their life and our life. Nor your life and my life. That it's just one teetering and endless thread and all of us, all of us, are entangled with it as deep as entanglement goes.

Upon the hill where soft winds roam,
I sit in silence, all alone.
The grass still bends where you once lay,
Your spirit lingers, night and day.

Your gallop sang, your breath was fire,
A living dream, my one desire.
Now only whispers touch the skies,
A glowing shadow in my eyes.

“I miss you,” falls from lips so low,
And through the night, you whisper, “I know.”
Though earth has claimed your fleeting stride,
Your soul still stands here by my side.

No reins, no saddle, just the light,
A faithful bond beyond the night.
My dearest friend, though you are gone,
Within my heart, you still live on.

“The Star Horse”
❤️Thank you for your interest!

They say in the old days, before time had bones and the stars had names, the Sky People gifted the earth with a guardian — a horse made of stardust and silence, called Wičháŋčala Šúŋka, the Celestial Horse.

But he did not walk among many. He waited, hidden between veils of the universe, for one soul who could hear the wind behind the wind.

That soul was Aiyana.

She was born on a night when the stars wept silver and the owls sang long songs. As a child, she would talk to the river and braid the breeze into her hair. The elders called her “Moon Listener,” but she never truly understood why — until the vision came.

One night, drawn by a light too ancient to name, she walked to the edge of the desert cliffs. There, the earth was still, the sky alive. From the dust rose the Star Horse — glowing, golden, every muscle etched in galaxies.

He did not speak with words.

But she understood.

He bowed his head, touching hers, and shared the memory of the stars — of ancestors who rode light across sky rivers, of harmony between spirit and earth.

And then he whispered into her heart:

"You are the bridge.
When the people forget,
your voice will remember."

From that night, Aiyana became a storyteller, a healer, a guardian of the sacred spark in all living things.

And on clear nights, when the stars pulse brighter than usual, the People say:
“She walks again. And the horse still watches.”

Want to meet a rare Marsh Tacky? Rags is one of the sweetest mares you'll ever meet and shines red like a new penny. Raggie also has an unfortunate condition that means monitoring her comfort and quality of life. Spanish Mustang Rescue and Conservancy is proud to be her last farm and love her until the end. We work hard to make sure every day is a good one for her and and all other horses we help here. Visitors are more than welcome by appointment. No horse experience necessary, come as you are, meet living history. Rags and the other Spanish Mustangs would love to meet you.

Heritage Horse, Modern Crisis

The Carolina Marsh Tacky is more than just a horse—it’s a living piece of Southern history.
Once the trusted mount of Revolutionary War soldiers and Lowcountry farmers, this rare breed is now endangered, with only a few hundred left.

Keeping the Marsh Tacky alive means buying from reputable breeders, showing them, breeding responsibly, and sharing their story with the public. And just as important—it means making sure these horses are cared for in their retirement years after a lifetime of service.

Whether it’s in the show ring, on the trail, or grazing in peaceful pastures, every Marsh Tacky deserves our protection and respect 🐴💛
