At approximately 11:21 this morning CVFD was toned to respond to a vehicle full of smoke on Wildcat Road. Units arrived on scene to find a camper van with an active fire inside. The on scene crew, assisted by The Pittsford Police Department, gained access to the vehicle to ensure no one was inside, then proceeded to extinguish the fire. Strong work by everyone involved in their quick response to save the vehicle from total destruction.

In Loving Memory of Captain Charley Parker
One Year Later – Never Forgotten

Today marks one year since we lost Captain Charley Parker in the line of duty after bravely battling a structure fire. His courage, leadership, and unwavering commitment to protecting others continue to inspire all who knew him.

Captain Parker wasn’t just a firefighter—he was a mentor, a friend, and a beacon of strength in the face of danger. His selfless sacrifice serves as a powerful reminder of the risks our first responders face every day, and of the profound impact one life can have on an entire community.

As we remember Charley today, we honor not only his heroism, but the legacy he leaves behind: one of service, integrity, and love for his fellow firefighters and the people he vowed to protect.

May his memory continue to guide us. May his courage never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Captain Parker. We carry you with us, always.

Tonight, your volunteers drilled on multiple fronts: relay pump operations, laying down large diameter supply line, and handline deployment. The focus of this drill was to supply a frontline attack engine from a secondary engine connected to a static water source. Engine 1 layed 500’ of LDH and deployed 2 - 1 1/2” hand lines, which was fed from Engine 4 connected to a water source. A situation like this is very possible in our response area due to the long, steep, and narrow driveways we frequently encounter in town. All members worked exceptionally well and a town resident even got their pool filled!

Early Morning Fire Damages Home

At approximately 3am CVFD was toned to respond to a freezer fire inside of a residence. Pittsford Fire and Rutland Town Fire were automatically dispatched as mutual aid. Chittenden Engine 3 arrived on scene and firefighters quickly deployed a handline to the seat of the fire. Pittsford and Rutland Town arrived shortly after and assisted with overhaul and ventilation. Units determined the fire was contained to the room of origin, but there was significant smoke damage to other parts of the house. Smoke detectors and quick 911 activation by the home owners prevented the fire from spreading further into the house.

We would also like to thank State Dispatch, Green Mountain Power, Regional Ambulance Service, and Pittsford First Response for assisting on scene.

In late October, we purchased a used mini pumper from West Rutland Fire Department. We have spent the last two months installing equipment and tools, driver training, and pump operations. Tonight Chittenden Engine 1 went on its first official call to a wood stove malfunctioning.
