https://searchagriculture.az.gov/SearchAg/EquineRescue/Eq Blue Moon Rescue & Sanctuary is a 501c3 caring for abused & neglected horses. While some may be rideable, most are older horses no one wants but are adoptable as great companions. Others are sanctuary animals who finally have a safe place to live out their years in love & comfort with full bellies. Our horses share their love visiting with folks just in need of a 'horse fix'. We also welcome volunteers willing to help in many areas, including fundraising.

Just as human feet have characteristics in common but are not identical from one person to the next, the same holds true for horses’ hooves. There are characteristics of the optimally healthy hoof - like those on the wild and free-roaming horses living naturally in the U.S. Great Basin. And there are those with symptoms of pathology that are caused by an unnatural diet, management and lifestyle.

The hooves pictured here belong to a domestic horse who was trimmed both by nature and Jaime Jackson, lived with a small herd in a rugged, hilly Paddock Paradise track system and could move over rocks and gravel as easily as he could walk on dirt. His hoof walls are symptomatic of good health just like his ‘cousins’ in the wild.

If you want to better understand how to easily read the health of a hoof, there is a lot of info based upon research and evidence in the Articles section at aanhcp.net.
