Another snake on this evening‘s walk. One of my favorites a kingsnake. It bunched up because it was worried about us. Suki just passed and sniffed it. in the second photo, you can see it’s flicking its tongue. In the video I realized I just wanted to get to the other side of the road so I stood still, and, hold , it just went past me.

If you haven’t been to the Ashfork Museum yet, you really should. It has really cool exhibits and good history. And their history is very associated with Chino Valley’s.

This exhibit offers a glimpse into a quieter — but incredibly important — part of railroad life. Before digital clocks and computers, every minute mattered, and timekeeping was taken seriously. The filing drawers behind our seated railroad worker represent records, schedules, and accountability that kept trains running safely and on time.

From punch clocks to meticulous logs, railroad jobs required precision, patience, and routine. It wasn’t glamorous work, but it was essential — and Ash Fork’s role as a railroad town depended on people like this doing their jobs day after day.

Stop by the Ash Fork Route 66 Museum and step back into a time when keeping the railroad on schedule meant keeping the town moving.
