Began thr day at graduation at Del Rio Elementary. received an envelope with about 30 "get well cards": plus another with letters for our troops. Get the going maybe tomorrow, letters from home are always welcome on the front

Off to St Joes tomorrow for pre-op labs, X-ray and MRI. Return Thursday at 0530 for surgery at 0730 Doc said 2 to 3 nights there, so hopefully I will return home on Saturday

Well dad gum, our Post's Commander resigned as of today and named me Commander Pro Tem I will be the only candidate for Commander for 2014/2015 so my odds of adding another 12 months looks probable. No matter, this will give me the opportunity to get the JrROTC scholarship off the ground and running. All you youngsters. pay it forward by being active and vocal in the VSO (Veterans Service Organization) Just trying to be all that I can be LOL

Very pleased that last night Post 40 accepted my motion to provide an annual scholarship to a graduating senior who is a cadet in the Chino Valley High School Army STAR Club. 2015 will be out first award, and this will be supported and aided by all units (Legion, Auxiliary, SAL and Riders) of the Post 40 Family. I just seem to always be making work for myself,, LOL

Met Kathy C on my way home yesterday. Now I have a kitchen full of boxes of home baked goodies. Trying to get them mailed Saturday. These will make someones day, even if they are threatened with extra PT!! HUA!!

Last week I submitted a Resolution to the Department of Arizona (American Legion) which will be passed at the Annual Conference and forwarded to the National Conference. The Junior ROTC programs are in jeopardy, because of budget cuts in the services. But these are great programs to instill Americanism in our communities. I have suggested that The American Legion sponsor a program, where local Posts can adopt a JrROTC unit, as we do Boy Scouts. Working under guidelines established by the services, we could remove the financial burden from the government and assist in training of the units. If approved and implemented this would permit the JrROTC program to continue in our high schools.

I have been asked by recipients on how they can repay me for the boxes. First of all, you can never repay a gift, for that is something intended for you. All I ask is for today's generation of warriors to become active and supportive of the future generations. A good start is to become an active member of a Veterans Service Organization (VFW, Legion, et al). We need your energy and ideas, for all of us are aging and we need to reinvigorate those units to be supportive and responsive of our veteran population. You spent the time and walked the walk, use your experience and knowldge to assist those in need. HUA
