Join us for our next Operation Clover Club, open to any military connected youth! 🍀

🍀 Operation Clover Club is Back!

Are you part of a military family or know a military-connected youth in grades 5K-13? Join us for a day of fun, connection, and hands-on learning designed for youth who have a parent, guardian, caregiver, or sibling serving in the military.

Participants will make new friends, build skills, and choose from exciting activity tracks including: 🍀 Cloverbuds 👩‍🍳 4‑H Kitchen Crew 🎒 3D Printing Backpack Tags

📅 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Operation Clover Club provides a welcoming space where military-connected youth can connect with others who share similar experiences while exploring all that 4‑H has to offer. (This event is free to attend, and 4‑H membership is not required.)

As we reflect on Advanced Judging, and continue preparing for the Calumet County Fair, I can’t help but pause and reflect on everything that has brought our 4-H members to this moment. ❤️🍀

The fair may be what we see right now—the projects, the animals, the exhibits, the presentations—but the real 4-H story has been happening all year long.

Our members have been showing up. They’ve attended club meetings, project meetings, workshops, camps, and countless other learning opportunities. They’ve tried new things, asked questions, practiced skills, made mistakes, tried again, and grown a little more confident along the way.

And now, as they walk away from Advanced Judging, they presented the projects they’ve worked so hard on, and prepared to bring their hard work to the fair, we get to see a small piece of everything they’ve accomplished.

The ribbons and placings are wonderful, but they aren’t the part that makes me most proud. It’s watching young people discover what they’re capable of. It’s seeing them step outside their comfort zones, encourage one another, take ownership of their projects, and slowly grow into the people they are becoming.

Because that’s what 4-H is really about. 🍀

It’s not just about preparing for the fair. It’s about preparing young people for life.

To our 4-H members: be proud of how far you’ve come. And to our families, volunteers, and everyone who has encouraged, taught, transported, listened, helped, and cheered them on along the way—thank you. It truly takes all of us.

Here’s to the work that happens long before the fairgrounds are filled, the lessons that happen along the way, and the young people who make every bit of it worth it. ❤️🍀

🍀 Fair Fact #6: Junior Fair Is More Than Just 4-H! 🍀

Did you know that not all Junior Fair entries at the Calumet County Fair are exhibited by 4-H members?

While 4-H youth make up about 96% of Junior Fair entries, Junior Fair is open to youth from a variety of approved organizations. Exhibitors may participate through 4-H, FFA, scouting programs, breed associations, and other recognized youth organizations that provide educational experiences under adult leadership.

🌟 Fun Fact: The Calumet County Fair and Calumet County 4-H are separate organizations, but they work closely together to create amazing learning opportunities for youth. The fair provides a place for young people to showcase their hard work, learn new skills, and celebrate their accomplishments.

No matter which organization they belong to, Junior Fair exhibitors all share one thing in common: they're learning, growing, and proudly showing what they've accomplished this year! 💚

Due to interest at the younger ages in the woodworking project, we are opening up an additional date for youth in grades 3-5 to be able to make their own Holiday Highland Cow as well!

Please know some of the pieces will be cut out ahead of time for them, and adults will be available to assist with this workshop. Registration is now open in 4HOnline.

🎟️ Getting ready for Face-to-Face Judging? You've got this! 🎟️

Face-to-face judging is your chance to shine and share the story behind your project! 🌟 Bring your exhibit, meet with a judge one-on-one, and tell them about what you made, how you made it, and what you learned along the way. Remember, you're the expert on your project!

When you arrive at the Brantmeier Building, grab one judging number for the department you're exhibiting in and listen for your number to be called.

💚 Need sensory accommodations? Judging can be busy, loud, and full of people. Connect with Carlea or Tami when you arrive, and we'll do our best to help you feel comfortable and set up for success.

Take a deep breath, be proud of your hard work, and have fun sharing all you've learned this year. We can't wait to see your amazing projects! 🍀

🎡 Fair Fact #4: Can't Make It to Judging?

Life happens, and sometimes exhibitors can't be present during their judging appointment. If you can't attend, it's a great idea to prepare a 3" x 5" card to display with your exhibit. Include information about:

✅ What you made or created
✅ How you made it
✅ What you learned along the way

Another exhibitor, parent, or leader may also sit in to hear the judge's comments on your behalf.

⭐ Did You Know? There is no automatic penalty if an exhibitor is unable to attend judging. However, judges may consider the exhibitor's absence when determining placings, since they won't have the opportunity to ask questions about the project.

Taking a few minutes to leave a project card can help tell the story behind your hard work and learning!
