One of my favorite things to do at Ambodat. Give the baby C’waam and Koptu Zoo Plankton,(pronounced Zoe).
It would be their natural food in the wild. So naturally they enjoy the plankton much more than the commercial fish food they are given when the plankton aren’t in season.
Zoo plankton thrive in 10- 14 degrees Celsius water so the temperatures in the ponds where we harvest the plankton are beginning to be too cold. Also Klamath lake where the plankton would naturally thrive becomes way to warm for the plankton during the summer months when the babies would normally be eating them, another big reason the babies don’t make it past their first year.
Here at Ambodat we are currently trying to raise the plankton ourselves in the hatchery to give the babies access to more natural food source year round to help them thrive.
