The Buck Fifty

The Buck Fifty The page is dedicated to Southern Ohio's Premier 150 Mile Relay Race Program. M.A.D.E.

The Buck Fifty is a 150 relay race with 10 member teams running through scenic Ross County Ohio. It travels through 4 amazing State and National Parks and across Historic Chillicothe, Ohio. This race will build strength in each runner, team and our community as all of our profits will go toward the Ross County M.A.D.E. stand for My Attitude Determines Everything and is a Chapter of Drug Free Clubs of America.

Good afternoon, Buck Fifty Runners! I suppose it’s time for an introduction…

No more “Buck Fifty Admin.” I’m actually William Presson, the Director of Development & Digital Strategy for The Buck Fifty. Titles though, are often irrelevant at The Buck Fifty, because let’s be honest, we’re all doing a lot of everything.

You’ve definitely seen me around before. I’ve been involved with The Buck Fifty since the very beginning, and I also co-host Running Off At The Mouth… when we’re actually releasing episodes.

Many of you already knew these posts were coming from me. Others probably suspected it. A few of you may have been hoping it was someone else.

Sorry to disappoint.

You’ll be hearing from me more regularly moving forward, alongside posts from Dave. Feel free to say “hi,” at anytime, or feel some comfort knowing I’m not actually an AI Chatbot responding to your comments, questions, or feedback.

The Buck Fifty has become a pretty big machine. We have races, fundraising campaigns, sponsors, volunteers, students, community partnerships, podcasts, and approximately 47 other things happening at any given moment. It only makes sense that we have more than one person helping keep everyone informed.

The truth is, I love The Buck Fifty and everything it stands for.

At its core, The Buck Fifty exists to support Drug Free Clubs of America and give students the opportunity to choose a drug-free life. It gives our community the chance to help shift the culture for the next generation.

I’ve seen the consequences of addiction firsthand. Family members and friends are no longer with us today because of it. I hate addiction.

But every year, this community reminds me there’s hope.

Hope in our students.
Hope in our volunteers.
Hope in our runners.
Hope in the people who choose to show up and make a difference.

And that’s why I’m still here after all these years.

Anyway, enough of the serious stuff.

Today’s official Buck Fifty To-Do List:

✅ Register for the Running For Their Lives Half Marathon & 5K: https://www.thebuckfifty.com/half-marathon-5k

✅ Touch the Brick on July 11th

✅ Register for the 2027 Buck Fifty: https://www.raceentry.com/races/the-buck-fifty/2027/register

The “Touch the Brick” item remains critically important for reasons that are still unclear.

Happy Father’s Day to all of our Buck Fifty dads!

Today, I’d like to take a moment to recognize one Buck Fifty dad in particular: Dave Huggins

Most people know Dave as the Race Director of The Buck Fifty. Many know him as the father of Paige and Payne. What some may not realize is that he’s also become a father figure to so many of us who have had the privilege of working alongside him.

Over the past ten years, Dave has poured his heart into this organization, our students, and our community. He is often the first person to give credit to our volunteers, runners, MADE students, sponsors, and supporters. In fact, Dave will give credit to just about everyone except himself.

And that’s exactly why so many people respect and love him. Dave never seeks recognition, but there is no better day than Father’s Day to recognize everything he has done and continues to do.

Dave and I have often joked that we’re not sure whether our relationship is more like brothers or father and son. The truth is, it’s probably a little bit of both. Over the last decade, we’ve shared countless laughs, more than a few arguments, deep conversations, and memories I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. Through it all, the good has far outweighed the bad.

Dave, thank you for everything you’ve done, not just for me, but for our community, our students, your family, and everyone whose life has been touched by The Buck Fifty.

Happy Father’s Day to you, and to all of the Buck Fifty dads out there. You’re all in good company, and we appreciate and love every one of you!

Don’t forget:

🏃 Sign up for the Running For Their Lives Half Marathon & 5K: https://www.thebuckfifty.com/half-marathon-5k

🧱 Consider purchasing a commemorative brick through our Cornerstone Campaign: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/the-buck-fifty-cornerstone-campaign

Good afternoon, Buck Fifty Runners. Buck Fifty admin here. We’ve moved into a new phase of race promotion. The “Hey, register before the shirt deadline!” phase is over. The “You can still absolutely register and should totally do that” phase is now underway.

Also… look at this brick.

Seriously. Take a moment. Admire it.

It’s our first sample brick from The Buck Fifty’s Cornerstone Campaign and Building Blocks Program, and I have to admit… it’s pretty cool.

Now, can you buy a brick like this? Absolutely.

Can you put your family’s name on it? Yep.

Your Buck Fifty team? Of course.

A loved one? Absolutely.

Yourself? Sure…

Your dog? I mean… who’s stopping you?

Your cat? I have questions, but yes.

Bricks are:
🧱 $150 for 1
🧱🧱🧱🧱🧱 $500 for 5
🧱🧱🧱🧱🧱🧱🧱🧱🧱🧱 $1,000 for 10

The funds raised through our Cornerstone Campaign will help support our building project at the corner of Veterans Parkway and Anderson Station Road. Even better? Your brick will be installed at our new building, commemorating everyone that has helped support our project, and our mission.

And if you’re running the Running For Their Lives Half Marathon and 5K on July 11, you’ll be able to see this very brick in person. Maybe even touch it. I don’t know why touching the brick feels important, but now that I’ve mentioned it, some of you are absolutely going to do it.

So here’s today’s Buck Fifty to-do list:

✅ Register for the Half Marathon and 5K.
https://www.thebuckfifty.com/half-marathon-5k

✅ Check out the sample brick at Scioto Trail on July 11th

✅ Resist the urge to pet the brick.

✅ Buy a brick

As always, thank you for supporting The Buck Fifty and the students we serve through Drug Free Clubs of America.

Good afternoon, Buck Fifty Runners!! It’s your favorite Buck Fifty admin here. Again. For the last several days, we’ve tried the subtle approach.

“Hey, if you’d like to run our Running For Their Lives Half Marathon and 5K, that would be neat.”

“Register if you want.”

“No pressure.”

Apparently, that wasn’t getting through to some of you. So I’ve brought in reinforcements.

JUST. DO IT.

There are 26 days until race day. The deadline to guarantee yourself a race shirt is TOMORROW. You can keep telling yourself you’ll register later…

Or you can register right now and save future-you from saying, “Aw man, I forgot.”

🏃‍♂️ Run the Half Marathon.
🏃‍♀️ Run the 5K.
🏃 Walk the 5K.
😁 Support Drug Free Clubs of America.
👕 Get the shirt.

I don’t know who gave me admin rights, but I do know this: Shia LaBeouf didn’t scream “JUST DO IT” into the void for nothing.

Have a great day, Buck Fifty Runners. We love you, all!!

Buck Fifty admin here. So… I may owe some of you an apology. A few days ago, I confidently informed everyone that there would probably be another post promoting our Running For Their Lives Half Marathon and 5K yesterday. I know many of you were REALLY looking forward to it.

There was not. Which means someone made me a liar. You know… that Race Director whose name rhymes with Rave Buggins.

It’s not like he could EVER be busy with life, family, and all the other important things that come with helping organize multiple Buck Fifty events and keeping this whole thing moving.

I suppose we’ll allow it. This time.

Anyway, since apparently I’m carrying the entire Facebook promotional department on my back now… here’s your reminder:

🏃 The Running For Their Lives Half Marathon and 5K is coming up next month on July 11th.

❤️ Every registration supports Drug Free Clubs of America and the students we serve.

👕 And if you want a race shirt, make sure you’re registered by June 15. This is 3 days from now.

So go sign up. Do it for the kids. Do it for the shirt. Do it because I don’t know when Rave Buggins is going to remember his login information again.

Buck Fifty admin here. Still really not sure why I’m an admin or how I got admin rights, but I’m here for our daily promotion of The Buck Fifty’s Running For Their Lives Half Marathon and 5K on July 11th.

Now, I know what some of you are thinking. “Another post about the race?” Yes. Yes, it is. And tomorrow there will be another one.

We’re basically the streaming service that only has one show, but it’s a really, REALLY good show. Anyway.

•You can run the Half Marathon.
•You can run the 5K.
•You can walk the 5K.
•You can convince a friend to sign up with you so you both have someone to complain to around mile 10 (at least for the Half Marathon… if you’re complaining around mile 10 on the 5K, you’ve severely messed up)

The important part is this: every registration helps support the Drug Free Clubs of America program and the incredible students in our communities.

Also, if you want one of those race shirts that magically becomes your favorite shirt for the next three years, make sure you’re registered by June 15th.

So, go sign up… please?

But if you wait until June 16 and ask us if you can still get a shirt, I’m legally required to stare dramatically into the distance before answering, “no…”

Not your normal race, but then again, it's with us, and I don't think we do normal very often. Because of last year's success, we've been invited to go back inside the fence at Chillicothe Correctional Institution on Friday, September 18th for the 2026 Buck Ten Race!!!

This 10K race helps to motivate the men inside to better themselves physically and mentally by knowing the work and effort they are putting in is helping others. Because of the nature of this event, there are rules you will need to follow. The cost to run is $35, and we are only taking the first 50 registrations. You must be registered by Midnight on July 31st to be screened for access inside the prison on race day.

https://www.raceentry.com/races/the-buck-ten/2026/register

Dress code:
-No tights/spandex
-Shorts must have at least a 5 in inseam, but 7 inches is preferred.
-All outside/volunteer’s will wear the red race day shirt provided
Electronics:
-No cell phones-leave them in your car
-No heart rate monitors
-Watches are allowed
Water will be provided
You must meet in the parking lot of CCI at 6:45 am on Friday, September 18th. We will work through the security check, and you must bring your driver’s license. Race will start about 8:00 am.

If you don't want to race, but would like to donate, we have that option as well. Use the link and just check the correct box for donation/participant.

When we decided to create a half marathon and 5K we had an open slate on what we could call it. It came our minds that everything we do in Buck Fifty World is about raising money to support our teens in DFCA. So it seemed simple to call it the Running For Their Lives Half Marathon and 5K. Pretty simple, but it certainly fits the bill.

Here is a paragraph from one of the DFCA Members we support, and how they feel about being in the club.

Being a member in this club is not only about feeling good about myself, but is to give back. I am fortunate that I have never been exposed to drugs or around someone who does drugs. From this I feel that I am very comfortable to be able to talk to anyone who is having problems with drugs. All of the after school volunteer opportunities and all the people you are introduced to mean a lot too. The past two years I have been given the opportunity to work the local Buck Fifty race. This race introduced me into a very friendly and motivational environment. Having these opportunities helps me build character and develop skills that I can use in the future, and even better, teach younger kids who are new to the program.

Sign up today at www.thebuckfifty.com, and do it before June 15th to be sure you get a race day shirt!!!
