Cheryl Hughes, a young mother from Chillicothe, Ohio, left to pick up a pizza on July 10th, 1977 and never came home. Days later, her body was found 60 miles away on a rural Kentucky road. Around the same time, another woman was found under similar circumstances just miles away. Authorities never officially linked the two cases but the timing raised plenty of questions. Cheryl's best friend since childhood, Janet Donahue, refused to let the case fade away. She became a licensed PI, ran ads in the local paper and kept searching for answers. But nearly 50 years later, the mystery remains. According to a 2019 report, the original case file is missing, possibly lost to water damage. All that remains now are fragments--a few newspaper clippings, fading memories, and an 11-page summary from Kentucky State Police. Apparently it opens with a line that still lingers after all these years: “To say the least, this is a very confusing case.”
