President Carol Solis was the guest speaker at Chillicothe Park District's "Coffee @ the Clubhouse" held at Shore Acres Park. From our beginning as Altrusa in 1960 to becoming an independent organization in 2019, Carol updated attendees on our recent projects, including playground upgrades at local grade schools and the Little Free Libraries located at Shore Acres and Santa Fe Parks. Other projects include annual support of Community Needs Agency, the Arc at Chillicothe and scholarships for graduating seniors. We're currently accepting donations for school supply gift cards so teachers may purchase items needed by students. Thanks to the Chillicothe Park District for inviting us to present our story.

As an independent organization we're now officially 7 years old ... and to celebrate, we held a Tea Party at Grecian Gardens. Although we were associated with Altrusa for more than 50 years, we're now a local organization able to keep our projects and money within the IVC District 321 community. Thanks to our Birthday Party committee for providing a lovely evening with theme-related decorations and desserts.

Chillicothe native Brian Fislar, author of "Whispers in a Ghost Town" and "The Night the Name was Spoken," was our guest speaker at the May meeting. Brian was in town to present the Peggy Pierson Memorial Scholarship to Miley Stamate in memory of his mother. His research on Shore Acres Park led him to write "Whispers ...," while "The Night the Name was Spoken" is a short fictional story about the Grey Ghosts' identity creation. Look for two more books authored by Brian - one later this year about the 1957 Grey Ghosts football team and a second about the life of Billy Galindo to be published in the fall of 2027. Thanks, Brian, for traveling to Chillicothe to present the scholarship and for sharing information on your books with our organization!

Students at CEC Chillicothe and Mossville School are enjoying the new bell towers recently installed on their playgrounds. These bell towers replaced the defective musical flower drums purchased by Circle of Service which were put on the playgrounds in 2024. We're happy students love playing the bells!

Arc at Chillicothe residents enjoy shopping at their Little Store once a month, and Circle of Service members love to support that shopping experience. Service Committee members Pat Simmons (C) and Kitty Baxter (R) happily delivered lots of things to be included in the Little Store, including deodorant, shampoo, candy bars, word search books, colored markers, various items for craft projects and other goodies to Activity Director Missy Herridge (L). Thanks ladies for your generosity!

In just a few weeks, Three Sisters Park will host over 400 5th - 7th grade students for the annual Spring Planting program which allows pupils to explore how life was on a farm in 1918. An event of this size takes lots of pre-planning, preparation and volunteers. Circle of Service members helped out in late March by packaging seed packets for the germination station, wrapping cobs of popcorn which the students will take home and making packets of play money for them to use at a lunchtime auction. Thanks ladies for your efforts!
