While the Texas Branch highly encourages its members to take advantage of the exceptional training options offered by the National Deer Association, other opportunities to learn about ecology and habitat management should be pursued as well. For example, NDA Texas Branch President Mark Ayoob is participating this summer in the “Quailmaster” course with the renown Rolling Plains Quail Research Foundation. “Regardless of the species, the general principles of habitat management are the same. The National Deer Association’s Texas Branch President, Mark Ayoob, just attended the Texas Trappers and Fur Hunters Association 2026 Spring Rendezvous in Childress, Texas. He was fortunate to have had some insightful conversations with extremely knowledgeable trappers concerning an array of topics relating to education, outreach, policy and advocacy, R3, and the crucial role trapping must continue to hold in our deer habitat management plans. Among the many highlights for Mark was meeting TTFHA President Mike Bodenchuk and 2025 TTFHA Trapper of the Year Mitchell Simpson. Our branch hopes to find ways to collaborate with this fine organization in the future.

We encourage our new Texas Branch members to find creative ways to support the National Deer Association’s focus areas; which include education and outreach, conservation and stewardship, R3 (recruitment, retention, and reactivation), and our outdoor heritage.

As an example, NDA Texas Branch President Mark Ayoob recently collaborated with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Volunteer Angler Education Program. While serving as an assistant instructor for a Basic Fishing Course at Bentsen State Park, he was also able to share information about our branch and its mission.
