There’s something special about the moments before the lights, the crowns, and the stage…

This picture captures more than pageant prep, the nerves, and competition; it captures sisterhood, prayer, gratitude, and the heart behind the Chiefland Watermelon Pageant.

These young women worked diligently perfecting their speeches, walks, and outfits all week and this little sweet slice shows that at the center of all, there is still time to come together in fellowship and prayer.

When people say to me, “why do you do this”, “it’s just a pageant”, “it’s so much work”, I am reminded by moments like this that the chaos is worth it. 🩷🍉

‘Twas the night before the pageant, and all through the hall,
Not a queen was asleep—not the tiniest at all.

The sashes were hung on the tables with care,
In hopes that sweet winners soon would be there.

The crowns sat sparkling beneath the soft light,
Dreaming of watermelons and tomorrow night.

Fern leaves were fluffed and the lanterns all placed,
Each backdrop prepared with such elegant taste.

The stage stood so pretty in green, gold, and white,
A picture of southern charm dressed up just right.

The watermelon planters were painted with pride,
While excitement and nerves danced side by side.

Tiny queens practiced their waves in the mirror,
And Teen queens rehearsed every answer clearer.

Mamas steamed dresses and curled ribbons tight,
While directors checked schedules far into the night.

The arches stood waiting for footsteps and smiles,
For contestants arriving from counties and miles.

From Baby Queen sparkle to Miss Queen grace,
Tomorrow would bring joy to each beautiful face.

And somewhere backstage, with a clipboard in hand,
The pageant director prayed every detail was planned.

Then quiet fell softly across Chiefland town,
As moonlight reflected on each waiting crown.

And we whispered with pride as we turned out the light:

“Happy Watermelon Pageant to all… and to all a good night.” 🍉👑
