Last night at our local MCL Detachment meeting, Westover YM MSgt Sierra Williams was awarded a scholarship check along with 4 others. She will be attending Mass Maritime Academy in the Fall studying Marine Biology.

Tonight the newest Westover Young Marines participated in their initial swim qualification. The Scantic Valley YMCA is extremely generous by donating the use of their pool each year to the unit. We certainly have some strong swimmers!

Showing up for community events like this falls right in line with our mission of teaching them the importance of American history, leadership, discipline, teamwork, community service, living a healthy drug free lifestyle and the importance of physical fitness. Getting exposure like this is great to spread the word about this amazing Youth Program! 🇺🇸

Although the Westfield parade was rained out we are so proud of our Westover Young Marines and their families for showing up and understanding the importance of this holiday and sacrificing a few hours of their weekend to attend the indoor ceremonies. Enjoy the rest of Memorial Day and take a moment today to thank those that gave all for our freedom. 🇺🇸

This morning the Westover Young Marines reflagged the St Thomas cemetery as we do twice a year to assure those that served our great nation are never forgotten. Nice job today YM’s.🇺🇸

Today the Westover Young Marines posted Colors at the beginning ceremonies for the annual Sgt Josh Desforges 5K walk/run challenge. Sgt Josh Desforges was a former Westover Young Marine and a US Marine who lost his life in Afghanistan in May of 2010. Every year they hold this run as a fundraiser for a scholarship for Seniors from Ludlow High School. You can also see some of our YM’s and parents participating in the race.

The Young Marines began the evening in formation before heading outside for physical training. After PT, they transitioned into an engaging, hands-on class where they learned to tie a variety of useful knots with rope, including the slip knot, figure-eight, figure-eight on a bight, and the clove hitch. Congratulations to Young Marine Keeley Blaze on her well-earned promotion to Private First Class!
