Sea Cadets of the Golden Bear Division in Chico had a packed drill yesterday. There wasn't enough time to get pictures of everything! The day was spend with new cadets learning about how to perform Marine Corps drags and carries, followed by an audiovisual online timeline of the events surrounding 9/11 from the 9/11 Memorial. We then headed to Butte College where we placed our hands on a piece of the WTC rubble as cadets reflected on the events. Next up was a BBQ provided by AmVets Post #2813. We concluded our day with a training by the Northeast Counterdrug Task Force Training on the opioid/fentanyl epidemic. We had local law enforcement and medical services professionals on hand to make the training even more relevant.

Last Saturday we thanked LCDR Penne for 22 years of service to Sea Cadets in her retirement from the program. We celebrated the promotion of PO1 Culter to SLPO and we wished Chief Smith fair winds as he graduated out of the program. A big thank you to Doug LaMalfa, Placer County Navy League Captain Dunavent, and VFW Post 1555, Chico CA Vice Commander Rose for their presentations.

Our Story

At the request of the Department of the Navy, the Navy League of the United States established the USNSCC in 1962 to "create a favorable image of the Navy on the part of American youth".

Today's U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps continues to further the image of our maritime services by adhering to a standardized training program designed to:

  • Develop an interest and ability in seamanship and seagoing skills

  • Instill virtues of good citizenship and strong moral principles in each cadet
