Youth Bicyclists of Butte County

Youth Bicyclists of Butte County Youth bicyclists of Butte County (YBOBC) engages youth and families through cycling.

The purpose of this foundation is to promote cycling and activities for youth under 18 in the United States. This is a non-profit organization that provides educational support to any and all youth cyclist(s) regarding the benefits of riding bicycles and participating in cycling as a sport. A focus will be made on communities and schools to share the health benefits and fun that cycling can bring

to youth and their families. We are confident that engaging in the sport of cycling will contribute to the holistic development of young individuals by providing them with opportunities to learn from experienced public speakers, seasoned cyclists, dedicated parent volunteers, and knowledgeable coaches. Through participation in fundraising events, various activities, and other organized functions, youth will cultivate a sense of camaraderie, enhance their communication abilities, deepen their understanding of nutrition, refine their technical riding and maintenance skills, develop organizational competencies, prioritize safety, and advocate for the importance of cycling as a sustainable mode of transportation.

⚠️🚨 PARENTS: PLEASE READ!!🚨⚠️

Last week, more than one rider fled from a CHP Officer in the CHP - Placerville Area while riding off-highway electric motorcycles 😬

Two short pursuits both ended in crashes and arrests for the individuals who fled (Thankfully, only minor injuries).

🚫!!THIS IS NOT A GAME!!🚫

We are posting this as a REMINDER 🎗️ to parents...This is not a new thing and is becoming more and more common.

Running from law enforcement is never "just a ticket."' 🚓

➡️Evading can result in an arrest (Misdemeanor or Felony charges), serious injury, or worse. ☠️

🙏🏽Please talk with your kids about where these vehicles can...and cannot be ridden.

A quick conversation can prevent lifelong consequences...

Many electric bicycles (specifically e-motorcycles) are NOT street legal in California. Vehicles classified under CA Vehicle Code Section 436.1:

• Are for off-highway use only
• Cannot be registered or plated
• Are illegal to ride on streets, sidewalks, or in neighborhoods

🙏🏽PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE SAFE!!🙏🏽

New laws on ebikes...

Hey Auburn, let’s talk about e-bikes—specifically, the ones your kids are zipping around on like they just unlocked a turbo boost in Mario Kart. We know kids love ‘em, parents love the break from carpool duty, and let’s be honest—some of these things have more torque than our first cars!!!

Class 1 & 2? Good to go! Pedal assist and throttle-friendly—just keep it responsible.

Class 3? Only for 16+ riders with helmets—so no, little Timmy should not be going 28mph down Lincoln Way like he’s late for the Tour de Auburn.

Modified or offroad only E-bikes that break the speed limit? That’s not an E-Bike, that’s a problem. Congrats, you now own an unregistered motorcycle. And no, your 12-year-old should not be riding it to school.

Parents, we get it—e-bikes are fun. But just like cars, they come with responsibilities. So, let’s keep our young riders safe, smart, and speed limit-friendly. Check out the flyer for all the details before your kid hits the road like a caffeinated Mario Kart racer.

It is back to school week for butte county. I hope many Butte County kids are choosing to ride their bike to school...
Please support the healthy choice of riding a bike to school. It is a great way for your child to start their day.

Thank You Chico Velo for recognizing the new roundabout. My son uses this intersection to get to school daily on his bike. Right on Chico for making more non motorized pathways for all to enjoy!

We are loving the new roundabout at Oleander and Memorial!

What used to be a bumpy, challenging and often unsafe intersection for bicycles and pedestrians is now a super smooth flow that not only invites bikes but allows two pathways for use, significantly increases visibility for all users, reduces vehicles speed and keeps traffic flowing at a critical intersection during school days. Thank you - & City of Chico - Public Works!
