The ol’ saying it takes a village to raise a child, well in scouts it takes adult volunteers to help transform kids into youth into young adults.

Volunteering is never easy and is NEVER just a one and a half hour a week commitment. It is a commitment that comes with dedicating time, using your vacation time, burnout, and occasionally dealing with a kid or 2 that makes you question why you do it in the first place or continue to do it.

Our local Paradise Scout Troop 194 has some amazing volunteers. We try very hard to camp once a month. Sometimes leadership is not available or it is just too hot in July and August to try and camp locally so we opt to do a pool night or other activity in these months instead.

I would like to take a moment to HIGHLIGHT our current adult leader volunteers by sharing the number of camping nights they have voluntarily spent camping with youth since they have been in Troop 194. If you run across these people, please spend a moment and thank them for what they have done and continue to do!!

Scoutmaster:
Scott Blevins
331 nights

Committee Chairman:
Mike Christensen
149 nights

Advancement Chairman:
Lisa Blevins
72 nights

Chartered Organization Rep:
Erica Jones
17 nights

Assistant Scoutmaster:
Mo Worstell
12 nights

As a reference, we currently have 3 youth scouts in the Troop and here are there numbers.

Coop 80 nights
Auron 72 nights
Griffin 21 nights

If you have a youth that is interested in Scouting, reach out and let’s talk. We are a small troop, but as you can see from the numbers a very active camping troop.

Thanks again to all of the adult leader volunteers that make this possible!!

One of the services that your local Scouts provide our community is the respectful retirement of flags.
This Monday, (07/06) how many flags would you guess were in the collection box in downtown Paradise?

Troop 194 attended the Southern Service Area camporee at Camp Tahuya in Belton, TX this weekend. The theme was Viking Adventures.

At the closing ceremony Sunday Morning, there was a special surprise speaker U.S. Congressman Phil Sessions. He had a very nice speech with a great line it that we are going to emphasize to our Scouts, “There are so many great things that make this a Great Country and you are one of them”!

Afterwards, Congressman Sessions took a few minutes to speak to and take photos with Our Troop. We are grateful for the time he took for Our Scouts.

Congressman Sessions is an Eagle Scout with a couple of his sons also being Eagle Scouts. Additionally the Congressman told us he was a Scoutmaster before and had a heart for Scouting!

Thanks again Congressman Sessions!
