The American Institute of Mechatronic Engineers is a unique student organization established at California State University, Chico, the first school to offer an ABET-accredited Mechatronic Engineering degree. Graduates of the Mechatronics program often work in fields of automation and robotics. As mechatronic engineering is still a relatively new field, a national or international institution does
not exist at this time. AIME ("aim"), as the institute is called for short, enhances the core Mechatronics curriculum by providing a convenient and fun method of networking, providing technical workshops to students in areas directly sought by employers, and sponsoring student projects, such as the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Team. Students of all skill levels are encouraged to join, allowing freshman to work directly with upperclassmen and being able to receive advice from the more experienced students. Alumni of the American Institute of Mechatronic Engineers have graduated and gone to work for companies such as the Walt Disney Company, Oracle, and Volkswagen. Officers for 2011-2012:
-Faculty Advisor: Dr. Ramesh Varahamurti
-President: Kelli Wildman
-Vice President: Hogan Hempy
-Treasurer: Jeremy Heckman
-Secretary: Kate Kurtzweil
-Publicity Manager: Ashley Marsh
-Chief Engineer: Kris Magri
-Project Coordinator: Nalin Randeniya
-Webmaster: Bianca Migueis
-Parts Manager: Keith Koch
-Advisor/Misc.: Mike Rutz
What is mechatronic engineering? Mechatronics is the study of the design of "intelligent" systems and products in which mechanization and control requiring sensing, actuation, and computation are combined to achieve improved product quality and performance. http://www.csuchico.edu/mmem/programs/bs_mechatronic_engineering/index.shtml
In April of 2011, AIME hosted its first event, Robotronica, where we set up a robotics expo to show to the local community.
