ANOTHER AMAZING FEMALE (BUT THIS ONE IS NOT LOST): RE*****ON BATEMAN
Nine-year-old Re*****on Bateman, an amputee who was born without a left hand, successfully raised over $25,000 in a GoFundMe campaign to pay for a robotic prosthetic after her insurance company, Select Health, denied her claim, calling the device "not medically necessary."
The money was raised in a matter of hours, but then a company called CrowdHealth stepped in and offered to pay for her 'Hero Arm' in full. With her own prosthetic now funded, Re*****on chose to donate the money to a stranger—an eight-year-old boy named Tyraun "Taj" Johnson Jr., who was also born without a left arm and was facing a similar insurance denial.
With Re*****on's donation, both children will now receive their new bionic limbs. Re*****on's mother, Jami, said they initially shared their story to highlight the impact of insurance denials and were thrilled to be able to help another family in need. The family of Taj Johnson Jr. was incredibly grateful for the act of kindness, calling it a "blessing."
Re*****on's new Hero Arm will be made by Open Bionics and is a multi-grip bionic hand controlled by the muscles in her forearm, which will improve her dexterity and support her spinal and shoulder health as she grows.
