Chicagoland Rescue Intervention & Support Program - CRISP

Chicagoland Rescue Intervention and Support Program (“CRISP”) provides free services to help Chicago pet owners keep their pets rather than surrendering them.

Chicagoland Rescue Intervention and Support Program (“CRISP”) provides low or no-cost services to help Chicago pet owners keep their pets rather than surrendering them to the city shelter. Whether you’re moving, your landlord doesn’t allow pets, or the cost of pet maintenance is too high, taking your pet to the Chicago municipal shelter (Chicago Animal Care and Control or “CACC”) isn’t your only o

ption. And if we can’t help you find a way to keep your pet, our network of Chicago dog and cat lovers will help you place them immediately with a rescue group or no-kill shelter to bypass the city shelter completely.

Sweet Willow, a beloved CACC adoption alum, is at our vet today getting treated for a potential UTI and persistent allergies.

Ensuring adoptions from CACC are safe in their home is one of the best ways we've been able to keep dogs who are loved from re-entering the shelter.

Shoutout to all the CACC volunteers who act as post-adoption counseling for so many. Whether you share your phone number, email, or keep in touch with resources you have become lifelines for so many people and the pets they love!

Over the last few months we've offered a variety of support services to Chicago Animal Care and Control adoption alumni. Helping adopters keep their pets has a dual purpose: it keeps pets in homes that loves them AND it stops them from being returned to our very crowded city shelter.

We're very grateful to the CACC volunteers who remain in touch and involved with adopters to support them through hardship.

We received a flood of requests to help with Jim and Segal, a duo who we learned very quickly has a special bond. Segal was adopted four years ago and has since served as a service dog to Jim who uses a wheelchair.

Segal has several masses on his eyes, which have started to cause irritation and disrupt his vision. As Jim's service dog, it's important that Segal have the masses removed.

We pledged $2,500 towards Segal's surgery that will be happening in two weeks, and called in our payment today. That would not have been possible without our donors.

Canela suffered a major tail injury, where most of the fur and skin was torn off completely.

We can't imagine watching a pet suffer without the means to pay for treatment. When the low cost clinics are booked, when there's no one there to help at the city shelter, we were able to be there for Canela.

Thank you again to Countryside Veterinary Center for continuously working with us to provide affordable treatment to pets in need.

Canela is now back home where he belongs!

Skey is a FELV cat that was recently adopted from Chicago Animal Care and Control. He started feeling sick after adoption, and after hundreds of dollars at a veterinary clinic his family tearfully ended up back at the shelter looking for help.

Thankfully we were connected with Skey's family and were able to send him to our vet for care. Skey had an appointment at our great friends Countryside Veterinary Center who came up with an affordable treatment plan so we could help Skey stay with his adopters.

What a face!

Remy's family was faced with an impossible decision when she needed emergency surgery to remove a blockage.

Do they surrender her to a shelter?
Or do they euthanize her?

Fortunately we stepped in so neither of those choices had to be made. Instead, we partnered with our friends at KodiakCare to sponsor Remy's surgery.

Thanks to Old Town Animal Care Center for fitting an emergency surgery in on a budget and thanks to CRISP supporters for continuing to help us keep families together!

CRISP is proud to be one of the services in Chicago providing end of life care for pets including humane euthanasia services were pets can be with their family during their passing.

Today CRISP is helping a client's elderly dog pass peacefully. We light a candle for this family and their sweet dog.

Look who's feeling better! There's nothing like watching a dog go from death's door to on the mend, back with their family where they belong.

The situation at our local animal shelter continues to be scary and unsafe for dogs, specifically large dogs and pitbulls like Coco. CRISP is so proud to work with our community to run a true shelter diversion program, assisting pets and their families in their worst moments.

This is Coco. She came into the vet on death's door. It was determined that she had a blockage and need emergency surgery to live.

A tale as old as time, her family spent everything they could on initial diagnostics and treatment before the surgery. They had no funds left for the surgery.

Normally at this point there are two options: Euthanize or surrender her to a shelter.

Thankfully, Countryside Veterinary Center has partnered with us to make sure their clients have a third option: CRISP.

Bella's brother Blaze passed away in the car on the way to Chicago Animal Care and Control. He had parvo and it was simply too late for him.

We're so grateful for the CACC staff member who took the time to not only console the owner, but to educate how parvo is contagious and would spread to other puppies in the home.

Because of this thoughtful connection, Bella's family was linked up with us, and as soon as she started showing symptoms we were able to get her into Countryside Veterinary Center.

Because Bella's parvo was caught early and treated - this sweet girl is going to make it.

In memory of Blaze, we want to say thank you to every CRISP supporter out there.

We've been backed up on cases again, but here's a great success story!

Paul (kitty on top of the pile) was adopted from Chicago Animal Care and Control. He's so loved at home, so when he started having urinary issues his family took him into the vet immediately. They suggested Paul could be blocked - which is an urgent matter and will lead to death if untreated.

Paul's family couldn't afford further treatment, but thankfully they were referred to CRISP. We sent them to Countryside Veterinary Center who take amazing care of Paul. And the best news? He wasn't blocked! He's back home now resting and recovering.

Thank you CRISP supporters for ensuring Paul stayed at home where he belongs!
