On Monday, May 4th, the World Water Film Festival is hosting a FREE full-day event at the incredible Sweet Water Foundation on Chicago's South Side as part of Chicago Water Week. And yes, there's a very Australian and New Zealand reason to be there.
AUSSIE FILM:
The day closes with the screening of - Revealed: How to Poison a Planet — the award-winning Stan Original documentary directed by Australian filmmaker Katrina McGowan (iKandy Films), produced in association with The Sydney Morning Herald's Walkley Award-winning investigative journalist Carrie Fellner. The film follows the Wreck Bay Aboriginal community on the NSW south coast as they launch an unprecedented class action against the Commonwealth of Australia for cultural loss caused by PFAS contamination — alongside the US legal team taking on 3M, featuring Mark Ruffalo.
KIWI FILM:
But that's not all. Earlier in the day, the program features the Hōteo Sediment Reduction Project — a short film from Water New Zealand showcasing how local Māori iwi and the Auckland Council are working together to restore the Hōteo River catchment using a unique blend of western science and mātauranga Māori. It's a brilliant example of what's possible when communities lead.
The full day runs 10am–4pm and includes short films from around the world, a guided tour of the Sweet Water Foundation campus, and panel discussions with global speakers and advocates.
It's free. It's powerful. And it's a rare chance to see stories from our part of the world on a Chicago stage.
