**a special thank you**

We put out an emergency call for a new space. We are a small (but mighty) non-profit and our storage/truck/moving expenses were our second largest cost over the last two years! There are so many hidden expenses to make the production of our programming possible.

However, with the community’s help, we were able to land a new storage deal! We are bartering photo/video work in exchange for storage/truck/moving! Honestly, this is a game changer for us!!!! We have the ability to allocate those funds to something more front-facing!

Yesterday, we began the move to our new storage/distribution home in Lawndale! Thank you to all the women who showed up and got a semi loaded in 4 hours! Thank you to for being such a huge blessing in our upcoming year! ♥️

With love,
smsl team

We are simultaneously freaking hyped and humbled to have the ability to add to our team!!! PLEASE SHOW SOME LOVE FOR OUR NEW HIRES!!!! ♥️

Please Welcome Demir as SMSL’s new Art Director! Demir is responsible for the creative vision and artistic direction of the organization. He is excited to further develop the organization’s brand identity and key messaging through visual language. Demir Mujagic was born 1993 in Bugojno, Bosnia. At the age of 6, his parents decided to raise him in Chicago, IL, where at a young age he taught himself to skateboard and design. Today, he remains inspired by the range of style that comes from skateboarding and the energy of staying creatively disruptive in the streets.

Secondly, we are so excited to introduce Carlee Belt to the position of Programs Coordinator! Carlee was raised in the country by some hippies which has influenced her passion for environmental wellness and social change. Right now, she’s studying Education in grad school and hopes to implement programming that actually fu***ng matters. She is down to put her body on the line for the betterment of all peoples and can’t wait to hit the ground running!

Due to the rise in Covid-19 cases across Chicago, our team has decided to refrain from hosting in-person events indefinitely.

With BIPOC suffering the most—having triple the Covid-19 death rates of their white counterparts and the increasing chance of coming into contact with Covid-19, we must do our part in what we believe will protect Chicago.

These disparities are undeniably dangerous to our community, which is why we are using our resources to bring wellness and support to those in need. Please do not hesitate to reach out for assistance.

We may be physically distant, but we’re still here for you. ♥️ 😷
