Every second Saturday of the month you can find our students, families and mentors doing something fun! This past Saturday, we were at ! Our crew got to enjoy four full hours at the museum, with full access to ALL the exhibits, and a cozy community room for lunch and a presentation of community programs at The Field.

Thanks to a generous friend of Horizons for Youth for making this connection, and to The Field for sponsoring this trip and getting more of the city’s youth connected to your resources!

📣 Last Enrollment Info Session of the Year! 📣
Are you a parent or caregiver interested in enrolling your child in Horizons for Youth? Join us for our final Enrollment Info Session of the year on Tuesday, February 10th—held virtually—to learn more about our program and what enrollment looks like.
Attendance at an info session is required in order to be added to our list once applications open.
✅ To qualify, families must:
• Have a student rising into Kindergarten–4th grade
• Live within the City of Chicago
• Demonstrate financial need
This virtual session is a great opportunity to ask questions, learn about the support Horizons provides, and see if our program is the right fit for your family.

Saturday morning at was one our students won’t soon forget 🩻

Thanks to the generosity and mentorship of the Northwestern Radiology team, our students had the opportunity to explore careers through hands-on experiences—testing ultrasound machines, touring MRI and X-ray facilities, and even getting a taste of barium. Moments like these help turn curiosity into confidence and open doors to careers students may not have previously imagined.

We are incredibly grateful to Northwestern Medicine for welcoming our students, sharing their expertise, and investing time in mentorship that makes a real impact.

New year. New goals. Same question: How do I give back in a way that matters?

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to give back, mentoring might be the place to start.

At Horizons for Youth, mentors build caring, consistent relationships with students in grades 3–8 — showing up just a few hours a month and making a lasting difference over time.

We offer low-pressure ways to get started, like Mini Outings, info sessions, and a trial match period so you can explore what mentoring looks like before taking the next step.

The holidays are brighter because of YOU 🧡🎁

Our annual Adopt-a-Family drive was a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when community shows up. With the incredible leadership of our volunteer lead, Maureen, and the generosity of 10 partners and 15 individual donors and friends of Horizons, we were able to adopt 30 families this holiday season.

Because of your support, every family also received gift cards to use during the holidays—meeting both practical needs and bringing a little extra joy. 🛷
