Nothing says fall like college football! 🏈🍂
A huge thank you to Fresh Wave and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Athletics Department for hosting our annual Notre Dame Tailgate! This year, more than 50 Horizons students, parents, and volunteers joined us for a special on-field experience, a tailgate hosted by Fresh Wave, and a campus visit led by our amazing mentors and Horizons for Youth Associate Board.

Experiences like these give our students and families the opportunity to experience college life firsthand, explore a college campus, and begin to see themselves in spaces they may one day call home. Our mentors help make those experiences even more meaningful by showing up, building relationships, and encouraging students to imagine what’s possible for their future.

Want to help create more experiences like this? Become a Horizons volunteer and use your time, talents, and experiences to make a difference in a student’s life.

Please join us in welcoming Ilyssa Haner, our new Senior Manager, Community & Volunteer Partnerships!

Ilyssa has a diverse background in social services and prides herself on connecting community members to their passions. In her new role, she’ll be helping grow and strengthen our community of volunteers and partners — connecting more caring adults with opportunities to make a meaningful impact in the lives of Horizons students. 📚

Outside of work, Ilyssa loves spoiling her 5 nieces and nephews and spending time with her fiancé and their cat! 🐱

We’re so excited to have Ilyssa on the team and can’t wait to see all that she’ll bring to our community!

Saturday morning at was one our students won’t soon forget 🩻

Thanks to the generosity and mentorship of the Northwestern Radiology team, our students had the opportunity to explore careers through hands-on experiences—testing ultrasound machines, touring MRI and X-ray facilities, and even getting a taste of barium. Moments like these help turn curiosity into confidence and open doors to careers students may not have previously imagined.

We are incredibly grateful to Northwestern Medicine for welcoming our students, sharing their expertise, and investing time in mentorship that makes a real impact.

New year. New goals. Same question: How do I give back in a way that matters?

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to give back, mentoring might be the place to start.

At Horizons for Youth, mentors build caring, consistent relationships with students in grades 3–8 — showing up just a few hours a month and making a lasting difference over time.

We offer low-pressure ways to get started, like Mini Outings, info sessions, and a trial match period so you can explore what mentoring looks like before taking the next step.

Make service part of your 2026 goals — we’d love to meet you! 🧡

The holidays are brighter because of YOU 🧡🎁

Our annual Adopt-a-Family drive was a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when community shows up. With the incredible leadership of our volunteer lead, Maureen, and the generosity of 10 partners and 15 individual donors and friends of Horizons, we were able to adopt 30 families this holiday season.

Because of your support, every family also received gift cards to use during the holidays—meeting both practical needs and bringing a little extra joy. 🛷

Huge gratitude to our partners:

Brickago

Maven Securities

Private Vista

And to our individual donors—if you’re comfortable, drop a ❤️ in the comments so we can celebrate you too.

Like, comment, or re-share to help us thank everyone who made this possible ✨
