📢 Take Action to Protect Hospice and Palliative Care Research 📢

AAHPM is urging members and supporters to contact Congress and oppose the proposed Office of Management and Budget (OMB) rule that would significantly change regulations governing federal grants and federally funded research.

If implemented, the rule could affect how research is funded and raise concerns about scientific integrity, including research that advances hospice and palliative care.

Tell Congress to use its legislative and oversight authority to stop implementation of the proposed rule and help safeguard independent, evidence-based research.

How can we build a stronger, more equitable future for hospice and palliative medicine?

Through the AAHPM Next Gen Scholars for Equity in HPM program, emerging clinicians are gaining mentorship, professional development, and leadership opportunities that help advance patient-centered care.

In our latest spotlight, Alexis Webber, MD, MS, shares how the program is helping bridge the gap between surgery and palliative care through mentorship, networking, and exposure to leaders in the field. Alexis also discusses the importance of expanding access to palliative care education and supporting trainees interested in integrating palliative care into their careers.

Every path to hospice and palliative medicine is different.

For Jaya Gupta, DO, a palliative care rotation during residency became a pivotal moment that changed her career path. Today, she serves as a palliative medicine physician at Henry Ford Health, mentors future clinicians, leads quality improvement initiatives, and stays actively involved in AAHPM leadership.

In our latest member spotlight, Dr. Gupta shares her journey into the field, the importance of communication in serious illness care, the value of finding community through AAHPM, and how she recharges outside of medicine through music, travel, and gardening.
