Prison and Neighborhood Arts/Education Project

Visual arts & humanities project made up of incarcerated & free-world artists, educators and scholars operating at Logan and Hill prison in Illinois.

Prison + Neighborhood Arts/Education Project (PNAP) is a visual arts and education project that connects teaching artists and scholars to incarcerated students through classes, workshops, a policy think tank, and guest lectures. Classes cover subjects ranging from poetry, visual arts, and creative writing to political theory, social studies, and history. PNAP also offers a tuition-free degree prog

ram in partnership with the University Without Walls at Northeastern Illinois University. Our classes serve as an indispensable opportunity for our students to connect with artists, scholars, and writers from the region, expand their cultural and political education, and communicate complex ideas. PNAP courses develop projects—visual art, creative writing, and critical essays—which are the basis for exhibitions, events, and publications that are shared both within and across the walls of the prison.

Join PNAP on Thursday, June 25th, for a workshop on best practices when testifying in defense of yourself on trial.

Facilitated by two staff attorneys at Illinois Prison Project, we’ll discuss defense testimony, advice for speaking on behalf of someone’s release in clemency and parole hearings, and cover your rights and the risks of refusing to testify at a criminal trial.

Happy Advocacy Day!!

The PNAP team traveled to Springfield to urge our representatives to support the Access to Justice program, which supports our work to share resources to our community, provide opportunities for employment and engagement to formerly incarcerated folks, and ensure we can all navigate legal and carceral systems.

The Access to Justice program helps make legal representation possible, but it needs full funding to meet the need. We’re calling on state leaders to invest $50 million so families aren’t left behind!

UPDATE‼️ Bradley's court date for tomorrow Wednesday, April 1st has updated to 1pm.

Bradley Gallegos was shot by CPD after answering his front door, after CPD responded to a Shotspotter alert.

Tomorrow is the first day of trial and support is crucial!
