We are SO excited to have Alex Yelamos teaching a Banjo Making class with us! Check out some of his work in the photos along with his teeny tiny hand plane.
Alex has one of the coolest hand-tool collections for making instruments, and is so generously bringing them to share with the class.
A little bit about Alex below!
Alex Yelamos is a visual artist, musician, and craftsman. Drawn to historical research and
traditional craftsmanship, he pursued lutherie through an apprenticeship with a violin maker in
Chicago before furthering his studies at the Escuela de Violería in Zaragoza, Spain.
His work explores how traditional methods can inform contemporary practice. As an
active performer and recording musician, he approaches instrument making from the perspective
of a player, drawing on firsthand experience to deepen his understanding of sound,
craftsmanship, and the relationship between musician and instrument.
