I had the opportunity to formally meet State Senator Lakesia Collins. We crossed paths during her journey to becoming State Representative, and now, as she serves as our State Senator, we were finally able to be formally introduced.

I met with her in my dual role as Education Committee Chair for the Chi North Lawndale Chamber of Commerce and Owner and Executive Director of The Pineapple School. We discussed the concerns of child care owners, including licensing processes, delays, staffing challenges, and the support providers need to successfully serve children and families.

Senator Collins also shared insight into her transition and the responsibility of serving a larger district that includes much of Chicago’s West and Northwest Sides, along with smaller areas on the South Side.

Most importantly, I introduced Senator Collins to The Pineapple School and made sure she knows that we are here in her district, ready to serve North Lawndale’s children and families. This is only the beginning! 🍍📚✨

As Education Chair of the Chi North Lawndale Chamber of Commerce, I’m proud of our Entrepreneurship & Education Committees for showing up for Alderwoman Monique Scott’s Back-to-School Event in North Lawndale.

A special thank you to our Community Engagement Committee, Party R Uz, and The Pineapple School for bringing our exhibit together. Party R Uz Print Shop & Party Design Team handled the Chamber’s T-shirt printing, design, and exhibit setup!

We came. We informed. We connected. We did what needed to be done. And we are thankful! 🙌🏾

Today reminded us that even birthdays don’t always pause the work that matters.

A sincere thank you to our Education Committee mentor, John Scott, for taking time out of his day to pour years of knowledge, experience, and wisdom into the Chi North Lawndale Chamber of Commerce team. Your commitment to education, community engagement, and leadership is deeply appreciated.

Thank you to Chantrelle Cross and Genese Blanchard for showing up and choosing to be the change our community needs. The Chamber is stronger because of your dedication.

Genese, I truly believe this season as Chair of the Education Committee will be a season of revelation—one that deepens your understanding of the opportunities, challenges, and transformative value of education throughout North Lawndale and the greater West Side.

Together, we continue building with purpose. Thank you all for your leadership, your service, and your commitment to our community.

It’s time to brighten our communities for the holiday season once again! ⏰ Applications for our annual Powering the Holidays Grant Program are now open. In partnership with the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, eligible applicants can apply through August 21 for a chance to receive up to $2,500 to support community‑based holiday light events.

Over the next 30 days, the Chi North Lawndale Chamber of Commerce is helping businesses get funding-ready—not just funding-aware.

We’ll focus on certifications, compliance, business structure, financial readiness, grant opportunities, capital access, and strategic partnerships so our members are positioned to compete for local, state, federal, and private funding.

Let’s stop chasing opportunities and start preparing for them.

We encourage district leadership to focus on long-term fiscal sustainability, transparent budgeting, and responsible stewardship of public resources. Communities facing economic challenges deserve clear accountability for how education funding is allocated and how those investments improve student learning, school safety, and educational opportunity.

Thank you to everyone who has joined and supported the Chi North Lawndale Chamber of Commerce. Because of you, we now have the businesses. Now it’s time to build.

Our focus is securing funding, driving development, and creating real opportunities for the businesses already committed to moving North Lawndale forward.

For decades, our community has seen organizations come and go with little lasting change. We believe it’s time to invest in ourselves, build together, and create results that benefit the people and businesses who are truly invested in North Lawndale.

Membership and outreach resume in September.
