Happy Feast day of Our Lady of the Snows, the Health of the Roman People.

Feliz día de fiesta de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, la salud del pueblo Romano.

This date marks the dedication of Rome’s first Marian basilica by Pope Sixtus III around the year 435. The original structure was built in the 3rd century under Pope Liberius. It is said that Mary signaled her choice of the church’s site with an August snowfall. This was the sign she gave to John, a devout and wealthy patrician, commanding that a church be built. After the basilica’s construction, a miraculous shower of white rose petals fell upon the gathered faithful. The basilica is still known as Maria ad Nives, “Mary of the Snows.”

Esta fecha conmemora la consagración de la primera basílica mariana de Roma por el Papa Sixto III, hacia el año 435. La estructura original fue construida en el siglo III bajo el pontificado del Papa Liberio. Se dice que María indicó el lugar elegido para la iglesia mediante una nevada en pleno mes de agosto. Esta fue la señal que dio a Juan, un patricio devoto y adinerado, ordenándole que se construyera un templo. Tras la construcción de la basílica, una lluvia milagrosa de pétalos de rosa blanca cayó sobre los fieles allí reunidos. La basílica sigue siendo conocida como *Maria ad Nives*, es decir, «María de las Nieves».

The next celebration in honor of Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos is on Friday, August 7th. Join us for the rosary at 6:30pm followed by mass at 7pm. The date has shifted this month due to our dinner dance fundraiser.

La próxima celebración en honor a Nuestra Señora de San Juan de los Lagos es el viernes, 7 de agosto. Acompáñenos al rosario a las 6:30pm, seguido de la misa a las 7pm. La fecha se recorre este mes por cuestiones de la cena baile.
