God of the stranger,
God of the refugee,
God of the detained and the displaced,
God of every border and every people,

Draw near to those who have been detained.
Draw near to families waiting for a telephone call.
Draw near to children wondering when someone they love is coming home.
Draw near to neighbors afraid that the next knock on the door may be for them.
And where fear has settled over a community, let Your presence bring courage.
God, protect those whose liberty is threatened.

Guard their bodies.
Guard their minds.
Guard their dignity.

Place competent advocates around them.
Place courageous neighbors beside them.
Place faithful witnesses wherever power would prefer darkness.

And God, disturb Your Church.
Do not allow us to pray prayers that cost us nothing.
Give us wisdom to know what this moment requires.
Give us courage to stand where standing is necessary.
Give us resources to respond where resources are needed.
Give us relationships strong enough to protect the vulnerable.

Give us voices unwilling to be silent when human dignity is at stake.
And give us the humility to follow the leadership and listen to the wisdom of the communities most directly affected.
God of liberation, we remember tonight that no detention center, no government agency, no policy, no border, and no earthly authority sits beyond Your sight.
So make us instruments of Your justice.
Make us witnesses to Your love.
Make us defenders of human dignity.
And when history asks where the Church was when our neighbors were afraid, may our lives provide the answer:

We were there.
We stood with them.
We spoke their names.
We defended their dignity.
We loved our neighbors out loud.

We ask these things in the name of the One who was Himself a child carried across borders seeking safety, Jesus the Christ.

Springfield's Haitian community is facing hardship due to the termination of TPS (temporary protected status) this summer, and faith leaders there are asking for our help. ICE raids have intensified across Springfield. Haitians are being detained and placed in ankle shackles. Families are afraid to go to work, send their children to school, or even leave their homes to worship; ICE was outside at least two churches last Sunday.

The Haitian community is asking faith leaders and movement allies to come to Springfield. Will you answer the call?

This is a direct invitation from the Haitian community. We are coming as guests to support a locally led response, follow Haitian and local faith leadership, and stand with families facing an escalating ICE presence.

What is Christian Community Development? And why does it matter?
