Loyola University Chicago was one the three grantees of the Health Profession Opportunity Grants - HPOG University Partnership (HPOG UP) 2.0 Research grants [2016-2020(2021)]. The multi-year grant cycle is coming to an end this month and we are grateful to have been a partner to this amazing federal initiative led by the Administration for Children and Families - ACF Office of Family Assistance (OFA) and Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation - OPRE. This video that features Hpog Chicagoland highlights how Health Profession Opportunity Grants - HPOG makes a difference in our communities. Center for Research on Self-Sufficiency - CROSS at Loyola University Chicago: School of Social Work would like to thank the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation - OPRE, ICF, and Chicago State University (South Suburban College and Metropolitan Family Services) for all the hard, meaningful work that truly matter to many who we are here to support and walk with. Thank you!

Keynote Speaker @ Virtual Commencement

Tonika Smith
HPOG Participant
B.S. Public Health, May 2021
Chicago State University

Following her desire to make life changes, Tonika Smith decided to move back to Illinois from Minnesota. She abandoned her apartment and current job and returned to suburban Chicago in search of something better. While researching employment and training opportunities, Tonika saw a flyer about the STEP UP Program and decided to get more information. She was intrigued about HPOG due to its emphasis on training and educational opportunities in healthcare. She went to an orientation session at Metropolitan Family Services – Calumet office and was accepted into the program. Ms. Smith endured many twists and turns along the way in her educational journey and persevered. The HPOG staff was there to offer her resources, guidance and support over the years. Today, she stands as a proud graduate with her B.S in Public Health from Chicago State University. “Trouble don’t last always.”
