Summertime In The Chi

Not every lesson is taught in a classroom… some are learned through elevation, perspective, and real conversations.

Nyla’s father reminded her:
You don’t have to fight negativity—just rise above it.

That’s how confidence is built.
That’s how leaders are made.

This wasn’t a comfortable meeting… but it was necessary.

Cali sat down with her parents and the principal to address what’s been happening at school.

No fluff.
No excuses.
Just truth.

Mom (calm but firm):
“My daughter deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. I had to drop my London trip just to be here. And while her father and I are her biggest supporters… we should not be inconvenienced because of poor judgment and DAMN bullying from other students.”

Dad (direct):
“What is the school’s action plan to make sure students are protected from bullying moving forward?”

Principal:
“You’re right. We should’ve caught it sooner. We’re putting measures in place to address it immediately and prevent it going forward.”

And that’s what this is about.

Not attention.
Not sympathy.

Just respect.

Her mother — a flight attendant.
Her father — a surgeon.

But today… they showed up as parents first.

Because bullying doesn’t get ignored over here.
It gets addressed.

This moment wasn’t about the jet… it was about perspective, identity, and possibility.

Nyla’s father — a licensed private pilot and a pillar of the community — welcomed the young ladies with intention:

“Good afternoon, young ladies.

This afternoon, you are about to experience Chicago from a higher altitude. But more importantly, this is about how you see your life — what’s ahead of you, not what’s behind you.

Never allow anyone to place a label on you. You decide exactly who you are and what you’re capable of doing. All things are possible for those who believe.

Sometimes you have to rise above the noise, the doubt, and the opinions of others. Bullies shrink when you rise.

Cali… even though you may not physically see, your vision is not limited. What you believe about yourself will always carry you further than what your eyes can.

And yes… you’re welcome to play your music from your playlist.

Now… welcome aboard.”

And just like that, everything shifted.

The energy lifted.
The mood softened.
The moment became theirs.

The young ladies smiled, gathered themselves, and happily boarded the aircraft — stepping into more than just a flight, but a new way of seeing themselves.

This is what it looks like when adults are intentional.
This is how confidence, self-worth, and vision are built in real time.

LET’S BE REAL…

What happened to Cali shouldn’t have happened.

Nyla’s dad didn’t sugarcoat it. While dinner was being made, he paused and spoke directly to her:

“You didn’t deserve that. Nobody should ever make you feel small.”

Sometimes young people just need to hear an adult say it — clearly and without excuses.

He reminded them:
Bullies usually have their own issues going on.
That behavior doesn’t come from confidence — it comes from insecurity.

“Don’t let that touch who you are. Don’t carry what isn’t yours.”

Then he told all of them:
“Never allow anyone to dim your light. Ever.”

And instead of just talking… he showed them something different.

With their parents’ permission, he offered to take them up on his private jet — to see Chicago from a higher level.

Because sometimes a shift in perspective changes everything.

This is what it looks like when someone shows up for young ladies the right way.

Summertime In The Chi

Cali, Nyla, Grace, and Jade walking down Michigan Ave on a Saturday afternoon…

Ice cream in hand.
Shopping bags on arm.
Sunlight hitting just right.

On the way to the Hyde Park Festival —
where the energy is real and the culture speaks for itself.

Moving through the city with intention…
looking like confidence…
feeling like summer.

Because it’s never just about the destination —
it’s about how you show up.

Soft life, but intentional.
Elevated energy, no effort forced.

Every detail matters.
Every step speaks.

It’s a presence you don’t have to explain…
you just carry it.
