Back off Colon Cancer

Back off Colon Cancer is a movement to increase awareness about Colon Cancer. 1:22 will get Colon Cancer in their lifetime and we need to work to prevent it!

In September 2017, I lost a dear patient to Colon Cancer; a case that was entirely preventable. That same day, a patient presented to clinic with a large tumor in her colon. When asked if she ever had a Colonoscopy, her answer was "What is a Colonoscopy?". Since launching this campaign, I've heard so many stories. Stories of loss. Stories of hope. Stories of dismay. This movement is a way for us t

o increase awareness; awareness that Colon Cancer is "a thing" and that it affects every single one of us. Too often, the topic of "p**p" "bowels" "colon" is associated with embarrassment, shame, awkwardness. These perceptions prevent those who need help the most from getting it. It's time to hear all the stories and actually talk about Colon Cancer. We need to know when we should get screened and never forget that this is something that can take us when we least expect it. Nearly 100% of the patients I've diagnosed with Colon Cancer have said "How did this happen?". Let's talk about it before it does! Share stories, Share information, and please talk to your MD about WHEN you need your screening test. It will save your life! Many have reached out to me about James Van Der Beek and know how strongly I feel about PREVENTION. Colon Cancer Screening is not an elective thing. It's MANDATORY.

He did a great job by going in his late 40s. That wasn't enough. He was diagnosed with Colon Cancer at 47yo.

If you are 45 or have a family history of colon cancer and have not been tested yet, make the call or ask a friend or colleague like me to help you! Consider this your "sign".

James Van Der Beek has colorectal cancer, PEOPLE can confirm. 'I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,' the star, 47, tells PEOPLE exclusively.
