The journey isnβt just about getting there!
Yesterday, we shared our Bus & βLβ Train Abortion Map to help people navigate public transportation to abortion providers in and around Chicago. But a map is only one small part of what it can take to get someone to care.
Sometimes the cost is paying for the train or arranging an Uber to pick someone up; other times it includes delivering emergency contraception and birth control, a hotel stay for a two-day appointment, meals while someone is away from home, childcare, or cash for an unexpected expense.
Under all that our small team works directly with clients to help them determine what they need and how to make their trip a reality - but our funding has not kept up. MAC is currently running at a deficit and we have to raise $250,000 by December 31.
Funding is important because it decides how many people we can assist, how much help we can give, and whether or not we will be able to keep offering our support when someone contacts us.
We want to keep saying yes!
Yes to the ride. Yes to the hotel room. Yes to the meal. Yes to the childcare. Yes to the person who needs someone in their corner while they get to their abortion or emergency contraception.
