Today we are celebrating Kate Maehr, Executive Director & CEO of , on her 30th anniversary! For three decades, Kate has led with poise and grace, guiding GCFD through the Great Recession, a global pandemic, and everything in between, all while expanding food access across Cook County and advocating for anti-hunger policy at the highest levels of government.

For Harmony Food Pantry, Kate's leadership and work has been integral to our success in North Lawndale. As a partner and member agency of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, so much of what we have been able to accomplish serving our community for 20 years can be attributed to her and her wonderful staff. Today, we join with her in celebrating this milestone. Congratulations, Kate!

Robert Smith showed up every week with a smile that made you want to smile right back. As a dedicated staff member at the Harmony Food Pantry, he was a reliable, faithful presence who never had to be asked. If you were carrying a box, he was already on his way over. If there was work to be done, he was looking for ways to help.

He was understanding of the needs of both the clients he served and the team around him, always hardworking and eager to contribute wherever he was needed. His kindness, dedication, and willingness to serve left a mark on everyone who worked alongside him.

The pantry staff honored him by writing his name on the cart he used to help shoppers carry their groceries. It will stay there as a reminder of the man who made that small act of service feel like something bigger.

Rest in peace, Robert. You will be deeply missed.

Registration is NOW OPEN for Harmony Community Cares Community Arts Summer Enrichment Program and spots are filling up FAST!

This summer, students in grades K-12th will enjoy a FREE six-week program packed with art, learning, and unforgettable experiences. We are running June 26th through July 31st, with field trips every Friday, lunch included, and so much more.

This year's field trips include a play at Chicago Kids Company, the Sloomoo Institute, the Contemporary Art Museum, Navy Pier's Children's Museum, and more!

Spots are first come, first served. Registration closes June 15th, so do not wait!

Fresh. Local. Just picked. 🌱

The Harmony Food Pantry just received its first farm delivery of the season from the Farm on Ogden and it did not disappoint.

Picked yesterday and delivered straight to our neighbors, this week's haul includes:

🥬 Baby Spinach
🌿 Mustard Greens
🧅 White Scallions
🥬 Napa Cabbage
🫚 Hakurei Turnips

This is what community food access should look like. Fresh, nutritious, and grown right here in Chicago. Our neighbors deserve nothing less.

Last Thursday, Wonka: The Chocolate Touch brought the magic and we were here for every moment! We closed out a very successful season of Community Arts with this incredible production, and it was everything. Over 75 attendees came out to celebrate, the set design was absolutely stunning, and the sanctuary was completely transformed. The energy, costumes, and food did not disappoint! Bravo to our students and staff who worked so hard to bring this production to life and make it everything it was. Thanks to Shelonda Hassell-Adegbaye & the SHA Experience, each arts student received a customized Chocolate Bar!

What a journey it's been! We celebrated the last day of our tutoring program, and our hearts are so full.We are very proud of every student who showed up, put in the work, and grew along the way. Thank you to our incredible volunteers, directors and staff who made it all possible. See you next season!

At Harmony Community Cares, we take a moment this Memorial Day to honor the Black veterans who gave their lives serving this country during World War II.
Men from North Lawndale and across Chicagoland fought overseas with courage and conviction. They fought abroad for their country and came home still fighting for their civil rights and the dignity of their communities.

That strength and determination helped spark the Civil Rights Movement that followed, and it lives on in neighborhoods like North Lawndale today.

We honor their memory by continuing the work. Building community. Caring for one another. Pursuing an equitable North Lawndale and Chicago.
