Yao Yao, Crain's Chicago Business
Even though Chicago's Chinatown is filled with a diverse array of restaurants, Yao Yao still sets itself apart.
While their familiar Chinese favorites such as sesame chicken or Mongolian beef are great, the main reason I stop in is for their pickled fish stews. It’s their specialty, and they offer a bunch of different varieties.
The dishes are built for a group, but they work for two as well, arriving as a centerpiece where you can toss in extra ingredients.
The space feels relaxed and contemporary, with ample seating and a glass-enclosed kitchen. It's an interesting, memorable style of dining. It might not be for everyone, but if you want to try something a little bit different, Yao Yao is your spot.
